    Designer Vs Professional Designer

Many designers forums and other platforms are just designers but are not professionals.

    - This is not particularly targeted towards the new people in design, but rather the designers who claim they have designed for years.

    Let me tell you why...

Another reason is money, they are doing it just for the money not because designing is part of their life. This is for the $5-$10 designers who claim that they make quality logos and designs.

Definitely understand your point, I liked the video although I wish the mic volume was turned up slightly.

I feel like most of the "designers" on these forums that are charging so little would like to charge more but feel like they must drop their prices down because if they don't, they won't make money because so many people are undercutting each other.

Perhaps an argument to that would be that they are in the wrong place selling and yes this is true however I believe that many designers on here are talented yet lack the proper skills to set themselves up and market their work to a point where they are comfortable to be charging an "industry standard" amount.

Not going to lie here, there is no professional designer on Sythe. Including me. I started photoshopping as a hobby because I found it to be a very therapeutic thing to do.

People liked my work and asked me to do designs for them and they offered to pay. Two birds with one stone! I really get what you mean by this post. There are many out there that are purely in it for the money. Those tend to take on way too many orders and end up mass producing low quality work with lack of costumer service.

    Designer Vs Professional Designer

Actually, I am a professional UX/UI designer. I work for Universal Orlando Resort and create app interfaces and front-end web, both design and program/implementation.

I also started photoshop, premiere, autodesk, sketchup, and all sorts of smaller applications like ZBrush as hobby too scratch that creative itch, but instead of keeping it within the realm of "lucrative hobby", I decided to slap it onto my resume, build a portfolio, complete my degree in project management and computer science, and work freelance for a few years until I could sign a good enough contract with decent income.

Saying there's "no professional designer on sythe" isn't necessarily true. A more accurate statement is a professional designer isn't going to waste time doing work for paypal dollars from gamers in a graphic forum that sees less than 1% of the overall activity conducted on the site. Not when there's full time jobs out there that offer benefits, steady pay, advancement, etc. Sythe is a nice pool of potential clients for those who start up websites like gold shops and so forth, who need an actual professional service, but you don't see many if any professional designers in the graphics forum because an actual professional has better prospects than $5 forum thread layouts.

As an aside, maybe it's just me, but when I get out of the studio, the LAST thing I want to do is sit right back down to more hours in photoshop and 3DS max for pennies on the dollar. I'm passionate about my work, but I need leisure time, and my idea of leisure is NOT fulfilling requests for subpar graphic designs for change. Not only is the money not there, but neither is the challenge, growth, or intrigue.

Well said, despite sythe being a forum where people run cheap services, I've attracted a few business users who do pay the price that are very close to industry standard prices.

Not going to say names, of course, there are a few users out there who do want professional services.

I graduate next year, summer 2020 and I'll be having an internship this summer in a UI/UX institution.

Also, I'm glad to see another professional here :)

    Designer Vs Professional Designer

i think this video is more of "you get what you pay for" rather than the concept of professional designer vs a hobbyist.

Most designers use the term "professional" as a cash grab.

For the longest of time now, I've always questioned what a "graphic designer" is because people nowadays are just compiling images, with a couple of premade effects/filters and slap on the label graphic designer hence the $5-$10 price tags but that's because the market calls for it, the demand for cheap graphics will allow for these kind of graphics to strive.

tbh, im jaded from commissions because you're not able to be creative with what you do anymore, you can only design in the lines of what is accepted in the community, which makes for homogeneous style of designs which is boring asf.

im still passionate about my illustrations with my own projects here and there.

Yea that is true. I've done company logos and advertisements for people who have found me on Sythe. Wouldn't call it professional though. And I think it's pretty ridiculous when people call them professionals just because they study design/animation. But yeah, I understand why you wouldn't want to do designs on your spare time since it's your profession. However, my field is in huge contrast to design, which is why I find the activity relaxing. Getting paid for it is just a bonus :)

    Designer Vs Professional Designer

Regardless of advertising on this platform and other forums, I still would like to consider myself as a Professional Designer, because It's not only the fact that my education is allowing me to step up my game, but I have contributed to society by teaching aspiring Designers about Design and how to use software, primarily teenagers and kids who want to specialize in this field. These events where I volunteered took place in schools.

That's one, two the freelance work I do is for people who actually own companies, start-ups, or growing businesses in the industry. There are people on this website and others who actually are ready to pay for the work as I said.

I'm not saying I am a Professional Designer for ego purposes or anything like that, but the years I have spent being surrounded by professionals and being part of design events and conferences makes me feel I am allowed to say I am a Professional Designer, I do this every day, it's part of my life. As well as my achievements so far, including the events where I have volunteered.

I still have a lot to grow through and learn, every Designer does despite how good they are or can be.

I'd like to make a video soon stating why going to university in this field is actually good for you. Believe me, where I'm studying has grown me a lot compared to 3 years ago before I entered an educational institution.

Most likely once I graduate and have a full-time job, I will probably not have time to do any freelance work based on advertising here. I assume I'll be moving on. Right now it's part-time because I'm a full-time student.

That's cool! I've worked as a private teacher and an supplemental instruction leader during my studies. Not in design, but I can still relate. It's really fun to teach!

Did not mean you particularly, I can't judge you because I don't know your merits. But I've had two people studying design contacting me and offering to pay for completing their assignments. Taking classes in the field is therefore not enough for one to call themself professional. In general, I hate giving myself titles, labels and/or creds. I leave that to the clients.
