    ISP Pirating warning.

Today I received a third warning from my ISP for 'pirating'. Never noticed that I've received three, only noticed the third one. Email was full of bs about internet security and how someone could be using my network to seed content and a bunch on copyright law. What blew my mind is that it had the specific shows that 'someone' using my network was torrenting listed in the email (Riverdale 2018). This is especially crazy to me because I thought when 'someone' on my network is using a software like qbittorrent which when transferring files uses p2p connections I thought the ISP could not identify the data to such extent. (I could be misinformed on how p2p works and how ISPs monitor data).

I was wondering what could be done besides a VPN to protect my households privacy from the ISP.

In general, it's not your ISP that cares that you're torrenting things. The company that owns the rights to the stuff you're pirating will be watching the torrent and noting which IP's are torrenting it. If your IP comes up on the torrent while they're watching it, they might email your ISP. From there, it's up to your ISP what gets done. They usually have some sort of three strikes rule.

With that in mind, your ISP will know exactly what you torrented, because the email the copyright holder sends contains that information.

Also note that the copyright holder's reporting system is usually automated, so no one is "caring enough to look at you specifically," it's just a bot that scrapes information about who is downloading the torrent.

    ISP Pirating warning.

If you're afraid of this then use a seedbox or VPN to torrent. ISP's can and will suspend your service for repeated offences. Also, if you're using a public tracker please stop.
