Large RS guide, simple, for new players.

The following is a guide for new rs players or people who would like to know more about rs, if there's anything that we messed up or you think needs work please tell us. We will be working on it more, but we want to know how it is as of now.

Guide written by l33tbyte and selling guide/Admin Jack, thanks to MrNick01 for extra information.

This guide is to help newer RS players quickly learn about the game, and for older players to maybe find out some interesting things. This guide covers many things including skills, moneymaking, and player killing.

    [1]Getting Started
The tutorial is a lot longer than it used to be, but it's still pretty easy. When you're done, you'll receive two experience lamps. Use them both on Prayer, since it's the hardest stat to train.

While your stats are really low, you should stay around in the Lumbridge area. There's a bank on the third, or top, floor of Lumbridge Castle which makes training around this area more effective. At this point it isn't worth using Magic or Ranged due to the high expense to train them, so use a melee weapon to kill things.
In most cases, Attack/Strength/Defence should be raised equally. When you first start training, you should kill chickens. Feathers should be picked up and kept because they can make some money, and the bones should be picked up and buried. The raw chicken isn't too important but if you pick it up you can cook it and get your cooking up, but there is no longer a spot to cook the chicken near by so it’s smarter to only do this when you specifically want cooking experience.

Once you get to 5 in all your melee stats (attack, strength, and defence), you can go kill cows. The cowhides should be picked up and kept because they sell for quite a lot of money. Every time you get a full inventory you should bank at the castle and go back to killing them. If you somehow die while you're in Lumbridge it isn't really a big deal, because you'll usaully be able to walk back to where you died in time to get your lost items, and you will keep your three most valuable items so that makes it even easier.

There's also another place to kill cows that not many people know about. There's a lot less cows there, but it's really close to a Bank Deposit and no one ever goes there.

After you have 10 in all the melee stats, it's time to get some better equipment. Head over to the Grand Exchange, which is located in the North-West corner of Varrock. From Lumbridge simply go to where the chickens are, then follow north and turn left once you get to the gate, then follow that road all the way up until you get to the center of varrok which will have a fountain in the center, once there turn left until you get to a large bank and then go north through that bank and keep going north until you see a place that has many people and looks like an outdoor bank.

The Grand Exchange is basically a place that makes buying and selling stuff really easy. Before you can use it, you have to talk to one of the tutors at the front. To save time, just talk to the Grand Exchange tutor, not the colorful guy, it is much quicker this way. After you're done talking to one of them, go to the bank and withdraw all your cowhides in notes. Then, sell your cowhides on the Grand Exchange, this should give you a small amount of money. Now you'll need to buy some weapons from the Grand Exchange, buy a Steel Scimitar and Mithril Scimitar. Scimitars are the best of the main melee weapons since they have the best balance of damage/accuracy/speed. If you have enough money you will also want to buy Steel Platelegs and Steel Platebody, if you have enough money you can buy better armour as well. At this point you can either continue to train or do some skills. Cows are recommended until you get to 20 in all melee stats, and their cowhides can get you a lot of money. After that,
cows aren't really effective to train on anymore, and you'll have to train on stuff with more hit points (will be refered to as HP further on in the guide). Al Kharid warriors are good to train on, but it is smart to attack the ones that someone is already fighting otherwise you will be attacked by many of the guards at once, and so is stuff in the Security Stronghold, you might need to do skills to afford good weapons and armor though. At this point, you might also want to start questing.

The only non combat skills worth raising in a Free World are Mining, Fishing, and Woodcutting. Getting these to 30 would be good for a start, how the stats are obtained doesn't really matter at this point.

Once you have 30 in all melee stats and the 3 main non combat stats, it would be a good time to start questing. If you don't have the required stats for a certain quest you need to do, then raise the stat needed to the required level. Most quests in RS are usually impossible without guides, RuneHQ has a lot of detailed guides and can help a lot: http://runehq.com/guidelist.php?type=quest

Another helpful website for guides to many things is tip.it

Here's the order Free Quests should be done in:
    Cook's Assistant
    Romeo And Juliet
    Rune Mysteries
    Sheep Shearer
    Witch's Potion
    Imp Catcher
    The Restless Ghost
    Ernest The Chicken
    Prince Ali Rescue
    Goblin Diplomacy
    Pirate's Treasure
    Black Knight's Fortress
    Doric's Quest
    Prince Ali Rescue
    The Knight's Sword
    Demon Slayer
    Vampire Slayer
    Shield Of Arrav

After doing all of those, the only Free Quest you'll have left is Dragon Slayer. This is usually a good time to upgrade from Free to Members, since you'll have done most of what you can do in Free Worlds. The quest isn't exactly that long, but involves a hard boss fight at the end. When you fight the Dragon you should have at least 40 in all melee stats or 50 Ranged. If you're ranging the dragon, make sure that you use a crossbow, because you can't use normal bows with a shield. After you beat him, you will be congratulated and earn some experience and the right to wear a rune full body and a green d‘hide body. If you haven’t become a Member at this point, you're pretty much on your own. You can continue reading the guide if you need to, but keep in mind that's its mainly geared towards Members, and expects you to have some basic knowledge about the game.

    [2]Skilling
This section contains information on the best ways to effectively train skills.

    Combining Skills
Mining-Do not train this skill with Smithing or Crafting. Mining can be raised extremely fast by powermining and stopping to smith or craft slows it down a lot. Smithing and Crafting are skills that can be raised later on by buying materials. For mining you should continuously mine iron until your wanted level, all other ores are worse training. Also, going to a world with many people is better than going to a world without many people because the ores restore much more quickly.

Fishing/Cooking-Fishing and Cooking should be trained together since there's usually a range or way to make fires near fishing areas. Cooking does take up a small bit of time though, if you just want fast XP for Fishing, then you should just bank or drop the fish. Like Smithing, Cooking is easily raisable later on as long as you have the money to buy materials to train it. For power fishing it is smart to go to a very busy world because there will usually be people requesting free uncooked fish, so you can simply just give them to that person rather than having to bank or drop them. If you wish to cook as well you should probably bring an axe and tinderbox with you so you can start a fire incase there isn’t another fire or range near by.

Woodcutting/Fletching/Firemaking-These skills should definitely be trained together. You can fletch logs right after you cut them from a tree and then bank. Woodcutting should be trained by whatever the best tree is that you can cut until you get to mage logs, once at those you should keep cutting yews if you’re doing it for exp. If you’d like to fletch or fire make at the same as woodcutting then you should bring a knife and/or a tinderbox. For fletching you should start with making short bows, not arrow shafts, and always do the best thing you can for your level.

Combat/Slayer-Unless you're powertraining combat, you should do combat and Slayer together. This way you get XP for whatever combat stat you're training and Slayer XP. Always start with easy tasks and then work up to the higher level tasks, for an excellent and in depth guide on slayer go to: http://tip.it/runescape/?page=slayer_guide.htm

Magic/Farming-Farming is a very time consuming skill and should be trained while training another skill, magic being the optimal and most efficient skill for this. Your best bet is to enchant the best bolts you possibly can, this loses the least money for your level, sometimes gains, and gives excellent experience.

    Melee

Normal Training-Training is pretty straight forward for the melee stats. For Attack levels 1-60, just use the best type of scimitar you can use. At 70 Attack, try to obtain a whip, and try to get a Godsword of some kind once you're 75 Attack. Training combat while doing Slayer tasks is usually the best way to train and get good drops. Your best bet for things to attack is either your slayer task monster or the any monster with a lot of hp and doesn’t hit often, or a monster with good drops, or a monster in an area where there are many monsters to fight.

Powertraining-Powertraining is really simple for melee, just use the best weapon you can use, and go to Rock Crabs in Relleka. They are really easy to hit since they're LV 13, have 50 hp, and they almost never hit you.

If you've done Priest In Peril and gotten to the underground part in Creature Of Fenkenstrain, you can kill Experiments. These things are LV 25 and have 100 HP. Also, unlike Rock Crabs, they're in a Single Combat zone.

If you have 70 in all melee stats, and 43 Prayer, you can use Dharok's on Tzhaar in Karamja Volcano. Let them get you down to real low HP, then turn protect from melee on. This method is somewhat more expensive then Rock Crabs or experiments though.

    Ranged
Normal Training- Use the best shortbow/crossbow you can use for training Ranged. Longbows are too slow and not much more accurate than shortbows. If you’re a non member stick to mithril arrows because they usually hit as much as adamant arrows do and cost much less. Ranged is effective for training
on almost anything that's not an extremely high level. However, like melee, it's good if this is trained with Slayer, since you'll be getting good drops and Slayer XP.

Powertraining- Train on Rock Crabs or Experiments with Iron/Steel knives or darts. Knives/darts are some of the fastest weapons in the game, and extremely fast for raising range. A cannon is another good way to get fast experience at the rock crabs, but costs a lot.

If you don't want to waste money on Rock Crabs/Experiments, you can try killing monsters with good drops such as Green Dragons. Their drops should make back the money you spent on the knives/darts.

    Magic
Normal Training- Magic is extremely costly to train normally. If you have a lot of money, you can use Magic for Slayer tasks, or on Metal Dragons. Magic can be trained without much money at Fist Of Guthix or Barbarian Assualt, since you're provided free runes, but this takes much longer. Enchanting bolts is highly recommended.

Powertraining- Once you have 19 Magic, you can use the 3 low level Curse spells. You should have a Water Staff, and a lot of Body Runes and Earth Runes. Al Kharid Warriors are a good place to use the spells since you can just wait for other people to attack the warriors, and then start casting the 3 spells. This is a cheap way to train and is one of the most effective ways until 45 Magic.

At 45 Magic, you can use Camelot Teleport. Most teleports are expensive because they require a lot of runes to use, but for Camelot Teleport you can just use a Staff Of Air so you only use 1 Law Rune for a cast. If You have high enough Fletching to make Yew Longbows then you should use Camelot Teleport until your magic is 55, if not, you should continue using it until you have 73 Magic.

If you have 70 Fletching and 55 Magic, you can raise Magic without losing money and even gaining some in some cases. It can take a while, but you'll need to make enough Yew Longs by gathering your own materials, and then use High Alch on them. This should be done until LV 73.

At LV 73 you can use all the high LV Curse spells. A Mud Staff would help out a lot because then you would only use 1 Soul Rune for a cast. This method can be used until 99 or you can do something faster at 74.

You'll need a friend or two for this to be very effective. Teleother Lumbridge is a spell that requires 74 Magic, and teleports whoever you're using it on to Lumbridge. It is recommended that you and a few freinds stand in Lumbridge, and you keep using the spell on them. At LV 82 you can do this with Teleother Falador and at level 90 you can use Teleother Camelot.

If you have 94 Magic and acess to Ancient Magic, the fastest way to train Magic is to use Ice Barrage at a Combat Ring in a house. This takes a lot more setup then the other methods though, and you'll need at least 9 people to make sure that you get the maximum XP from a cast.

    Prayer
Normal Training-Always bury the bones you receive from drops. Normal bones will only give you 4.5 XP each but they're useful until you have 43 Prayer. At that point you'll only want to bury Big Bones or Dragon Bones, but it's really hard to raise without powertraining at this point. P.S. Big bones can be obtained from many monsters, but ogres, hill giants, and moss giants are the most common and easy to get to monsters to get these bones. Any dragons drop dragon bones.

Powertraining-You'll need about 8 Pots and 8 Buckets for this method. It helps a lot if you've completed Ghosts Ahoy because then you can bank.

What you need to do is go to the area of Ectofuntus worship in Port Phasmatys, and fill the buckets with slime from the basement. After that, you'll want to go upstairs, and grind up your bones. Then you go back to the first floor and worship the Ectofuntus. This gives you 4x more XP then you will normally get from the bone.

    Runecrafting
This skill is pretty straight forward. You should start with air runes and work your way up if you’re a non member. For members you should go to the Zamorak Mage Institute which can be found below the Chaos alter south-west of Ardougone. This is the best way to get your rune crafting up quickly at a low level and possibly make your cash back or more. You'll want to do the Mage Of Zamorak miniquest if you‘re a high level, and use the abyss to Runecraft. The abyss is north of edgeville, in the wild, right by the top of the small body of water. You should take a pickaxe with you in order to get into the area to make the runes because the spot for mining is closest. You should also kill the monsters in the abyss until you get the best pouches you can get for your rune crafting level (check the rune crafting skill guide in your stats page to see). Those pouches hold extra rune essence so you can make many more runes per run. If you’re making nature runes you should buy many glory amulet (4)’s and wear them in order to teleport back to edgeville, it saves a lot of time and will help you make a lot of money.

    Construction
Construction probably contains the most things to do for one skill. It is very time consuming and expensive. The best use for construction is to get to the level needed to make Camelot teleport tablets and make them because it currently makes excellent money. For a full, in depth guide to construction please visit: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=construction_beginner_guide.htm

    Agility
This is a very important skill to have early on in the game so you'll want to raise it very high. Just use whatever courses you can, and train it to 40, then start using the Brimhaven Agility Arena. When you're in the Arena, keep your health low, as the obstacles hit lower damage the lower your health is. Never attempt the darts in the arena unless you have 45+ Agility. By the time you've gotten about 50 Agility the place should become very easy and you'll get tickets at a very fast rate. The tickets can be used for experience or some prizes, I suggest you use it on the experience all the time. The prizes are terrible.

    Herblore
Herblore is basically useless now, it loses an amazing amount of cash if you buy your supplies and just plain is pointless at this point in time. If you really want to raise it to get your total level up you should simply make the best potions you can, that’s about all you can do for herb lore. There are no short cuts or easier ways to get the experience. If you just want the potions, you’re better off simply buying them from the Grand Exchange.

    Thieving
Simply pickpocket the best NPC's you can. Ardougne is a good place to train this skill because there's tons of NPC's you can thieve there. And if you need food there you can just thief the cake stalls.

    Crafing
To start off you should probably just spin wool, then move onto flax and do flax all the way up since it's the cheapest way and one of the only ways you can actually make money off of crafting, most of the crafting skill loses money.

    Fletching
If you don't want to spend a ton of money, you're going to have to cut your logs. You should start woodcutting and fletching at the same time because the levels are similar, start with arrow shafts and work your way up to shortbows then longbows, once you can do shortbows or long bows never go back to arrow shafts. Always make the best thing you can, and just sell, bank, or drop the bows. Don't bother stringing them.

Powertraining: Buy logs for the best bow you can fletch and cut them right by a bank, then every load put the unfinished long bows/shortbows in the bank and take out more logs. Continue until you can make better bows and keep doing this until you reach your desired level.

    Slayer
Normal Training-Always use the best Slayer master you can use. Slayer masters that require higher levels will usually assign you monsters with good drops. But, sometimes they will assign you monsters that are too hard for you and you will want to get a task that is easier from an easier Slayer Master.

Powertraining-To train Slayer as fast as possible, use Vannaka. He will assign low level monsters that are easy to kill but still drop average items.

    Hunter
You should start by catching the best birds you can, there are quite a few, so check the levels you need in your skill page for hunting. Once you can catch swamp lizards you should do that and work your way up through the different lizards and salamanders, those are the best for fast experience. To make money you should catch red chinchompas.

    Mining
Normal Training-Always mine in crowded worlds, ore respawns faster the more people there are in a world. Mine in areas that are close to the bank and have a variety of ore. There's many places but most require some quests to be done, the Grand Tree mine works pretty well for this though.

Powertraining-Once you're level 15 in Mining, you'll need to go somewhere where there's two iron rocks that you can mine without moving. Some good places are the Rimmington Mine or Al Kharid Chasm but anywhere with two iron rocks next to eachother will work. You will want to repeatedly mine them one after another. Once you have a full inventory, you drop the iron and start again. If the iron isn't respawning that fast you can also mine 2 and drop 2, and by the time you've dropped 2 of them one of the rocks should've
    respawned.

The iron method is effective and can be used until LV 99, but by then you'll probably have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. At level 45 you can mine Granite in the desert which gives a very large amount of XP. However, you'll need lots of waterskins, and it's pretty far from a bank, so it makes refilling the waterskins a problem.

Alternatively, once you're level 60 you can use the Mining Guild and mine Coal. Gold is even better to powermine then Coal though, and it can be obtained extremely fast at the Crafting Guild. It takes 40 Crafting to enter, and has 7 Gold rocks. However, you won't be able to bank here, so if you want to powermine and still make money, it's suggested that you mine Coal at the Mining Guild. But, remember that mining iron will always be the best way to powermine.

    Smithing
This skill is better to train on it’s own, without mining the ore. You should save up a lot of money and spend it on ore to make the best bars you can. The best place to make the bars is by the Al Kharid bank because it’s very close to the bank and saves a lot of time. An alternative to that is to complete the Varrok Achievement Diary because when wearing the armor you get some smithing bonuses and you are able to enter a smithing area literally right outside of the edgeville bank. For smithing the bars into armor or weapons you should use the anvils by the large bank in Varrok.

    Fishing
Normal Training-Fish the highest fish you can and either sell them or cook them to use as food later. Avoid Harpoon fishing until you can do sharks though. Fly fishing is the best type of fishing for non members for experience and if you would like to cook at the same time.

Powerfishing-Simply get 20 Fishing, then Fly Fish. There are many places to do this but if you've completed the quest Shilo Village then Shilo Village is the best place for XP. After every full load you can just bank them.

Trout and Salmon are terrible for Cooking XP though. If you want a good balance of Fishing/Cooking Xp, you should start fishing Lobsters at level 70 (at that level you will catch them fairly quickly). Cage Fishing isn't as fast as Fly Fishing, but it gets pretty close.

    Cooking
Normal Training- Your best bet for cooking is to fish and then cook whatever it is that you’ve just fished, this will be the optimal way to get experience without spending loads of cash.

Powertraining- Buy whatever uncooked fish is 2 ranks below your maximum, like if you can cook lobster then cook whatever would be 2 less requirements than that. This is in order to get good experience and you will burn the fish much less.

    Firemaking
Normal Training- If you really wish to train this without buying items, your best bet is to woodcut at the same time and then burn the logs with your tinderbox. This isn’t suggested though since buying the logs isn’t too expensive and it’s much quicker.

Power Training-Buy the highest logs you can, then go to Varrock and burn them since it has a really long road. Just follow the road while burning your logs and then get more from the bank and repeat.

    Woodcutting
Normal Training-Cut the highest level trees you can until you get to magic tree’s, stick with yews until you reach your desired woodcutting level. Magic tree’s respawn slowly and there is always an extremely large amount of people, many with 99 woodcutting, there. Always fletch the logs if you’re looking to get a lot of experience for your total experience or level.

Powertraining-Cut Willows in Rimmington. It's not crowded there at all, and you can quickly sell the logs to the General Store and then start cutting again. Just repeat this, no matter what level, until you reach your desired woodcutting level.

    Farming
Farming is probably the most time consuming and annoying skill there is. You should usually just buy the seeds or use ones you might already have and always grow the best plants, tree's, etc. you can. Always plant at more than one area because of how long it takes to grow them.

    Summoning
Summoning is well, summoning. There is an extremely wide variety of things you can do with it and every different thing you can do requires different items to do or make. For this reason you can't really narrow down what is best to do, all you can do is pick what you want do go for and do exactly what is needed to get there. The only set thing you can really do for summoning is get different required tokens, which can be received from almost all monsters.

    [3]Moneymaking

Below are some ways to make money, most aren't very good and this is because we don't wish to give out the very good ones. If you would like to know more about the very good ones join the forums (http://www..com) and ask for some good ways to make money. We will be happy to help.

    Flax picking
Requirements- Members and nothing else, if you're level three you can pick flax, just buy a camelot teleport and walk to the field. Bank the flax in seers.

Average Money Made An Hour- About 70k-100k

    Clay Mining (Yes, clay mining)
    Requirements- A pickaxe

Non members should mine it below varrock and bank it in the big bank, members should mine it by Port Khazard and use the deposit box or bank it in Yanille

Average Money Made Per Hour- 70-110k

    Jungle Spiders

Requirements- There are none since you can hide behind a fence if you must, but some ideal stats would be 40 in all melee stats or 40 in mage/range depending on what you're using. The best armor and weapon you can use since that will speed things up. Bring 4 lobsters or so just in case you need them, but they rarely hit.

They can be found on the peninsula by Yanille, go all the way out and you will see them. You should hide behind the fence if you're low defence, and attack the ones by the house if you're good defence and melee. They also do not poison, contrary to popular belief.

Average Money Made Per Hour- 80-150k depending on your level, and you get a good amount of experience as well, usually above 50k an hour.

    Rune Mining
Requirements-85 Mining, Hero's Quest completed would be a benefit

Average Money Made An Hour: 600k, Find an area with Rune rocks such as the Hero's Guild basement, then mine the rocks and switch worlds.

    Killing Ankou
Requirements- At least 70 combat with rune armor minimum, a dragon or better weapon, about 20 lobsters or better food, a ring of wealth, and if you’re a range and/or mage pure there’s a spot that you can hide at but the ankou can be aggressive sometimes and they may attack you so be very careful.

Average Money Made An Hour: It varies depending on your items, how many people are there, and your level. At level 70 you won’t make much, maybe 100k an hour if you’re lucky, but you will be getting decent experience as well. If you’re level 90+ you can probably make 200-400k an hour.

[4]Pures*edit stuff here since i dont know to much about pures, add training methods espcailly for range and mage to keep low hp, like curse/ranging guild methods* Pures are accounts made mainly for the purpose of owning people in BH. This section lists the different types of pures and how they're used.

    Tribrid (p2p pure)
    Ideal Stats:
    99 Attack
    99 Strength
    70 Defence
    99 Ranged
    99 Magic
    99 Hitpoints
    52 Prayer

This is probably the best type of pure there is. It's recommended to fight people in Members Medium-Level Crater. You should first special opponents with the Dark Bow or Dragon Dagger, and then switch to an Abyssal Whip or Rune Crossbow. You can also attempt to farcast your opponents with Ancient Magic, preferably Ice Barrage. You can use whatever the best armor is that you can use but it should be geared toward the skill you aim to use the most, mage, range, melee, etc.

    Melee/Range Hybrid
    40 Attack
    99 Strength
    1 Defence
    99 Ranged
    59 Magic
    99 Hitpoints
    43 Prayer

You should fight in f2p mid level crater and use green d hide chaps, iron body, and iron helm/ green d’ hide coif. Use a rune scimitar and have a maple body, many addy arrows, strength potion, bounty locate, fire blasts, and binds with you.

    Range/Mage Hybrid
    1 Attack
    1 Strength
    1 Defence
    99 Ranged
    94/99 Magic
    99 Hitpoints
    52 Prayer

Fight people in Members Medium-Level Crater. Attempt to farcast opponents with Ice Barrage. You can use Dark Bow for specials, rune cross bow with onyx bolts as your main weapon, and full black d’ hide.

    Range Pure
    Ideal stats:
    1 Attack
    1 Strength
    1 Defence
    99 Ranged
    32 Magic
Best Hitpoints you can get before getting out of the low crator
    44 Prayer

This type of pure is good for Members Low-Level Crater. Use Dark Bow/Rune Crossbow and Dragon arrows/ onyx bolts.

    Mage Pure
    Ideal Stats:
    1 Attack
    1 Strength
    1 Defence
    1 Ranged
    99 Magic
Best Hitpoints you can get before getting out of the low crator
    45 Prayer

Use this on people in Members Low-Level Crater. Use Entangle and then farcast with Fire Wave.

    Range Tanker
    Ideal Stats:
    1 Attack
    1 Strength
    70 Defence
    99 Ranged
    32 Magic
    99 Hitpoints

It's been posted on my site and selling guide's site. I wrote most of it and selling guide helped me edit it. And as selling guide said if you look at the Photobucket images you'll see that they're from my Photobucket account. Stop making false accusations.
