If they have good riffs\bass lines etc. and good lyrics obviously it's a good song what you just said makes me believe you are a moron and do not belong in this section.

anyone else smell a bit of ignorance?

Thought I already mentioned vader, and I agree with the bottom part.

We have already went over this there music is terrible because A no skills instrumentally and there lyrics are lacking and usually just a mess which makes for bad songs this is not opinionated anyone with a brain can figure these 2 things out.

I call those an excuse for hard-rock with sometimes harsh, and definitely inconsistent and untalented vocals.

EVERYONE I know that listens to these bands listen to them because their friends think they're good - and incidentally those people listen to them because they don't want to be harassed by THEIR friends, and so on. If you got a "Slipknot fan" or a "SOAD fan" before they were indeed a "fan", allowed them to listen to them without the peer pressure, they would be like "How the fuck can you listen to this crap?"

Good metal is generally music that is at least acceptable by most people (even if they don't listen to metal). There are exceptions for genres like Death Metal, because a majority don't like the intensity of the instrumentals, or the harshness of the vocals, however among a niche group, the same applies as discussed earlier in this paragraph.

Well, Burzum and Bathory are the ones I like the most. Dark Throne, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Rotting Christ etc go along also pretty well... Just found this new band, Sacrificia Mortuorum and damn I'm in love with it <3 http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=14960

I look like your typical metalhead, long hair(really long actually), beard, wear band t-shirt's(mostly metal) and...well I have camo-shorts XD. But, the majority of the music I listen to would probably be considered "pussy/fag music" by typical metal fans. That doesn't include musically knowledgeable "metalheads", they usually don't base a person on the type of music they listen to. It's kinda stupid to base someone on that, music is too personal and obective.

But, good point Viper. I always go into a forum realizing that it's people's opinions they post. Even if the person doesn't realize it. I see where you're coming from though, it can get annoying. It's different if you post your opinions with reasons behind them. That makes them a little more understandable than blatantly declaring a band makes horribly generic music.

Good suggestions so far, I would like to add though:

    Seneca
    Heavy Heavy Low Low
    Kill Whitney Dead
    Dr Acula
    Vader
    In Flames
    Old Man's Child
    Between the Buried and Me

But my favorites listed so far have to be:

    Dimmu Borgir
    Metallica
    Alice in Chains
    Lamb of God
    Fall of Troy
    The Devil Wears Prada
    As I Lay Dying
cant really consider Led Zepplin metal, but I'll put them on the list to. :D

I have to admit that Surfacing is a pretty damn uncreative song, but their other songs aren't too bad, and their new album pwns.

I mostly listen to Metalcore though.
    As I Lay Dying
    The Devil Wears Prada
    All that Remains
    Lamb of God

Awesome bands and some of them might be mainstream, but that doesn't mean they automatically suck.

I will talk about these 2 quotes as a whole, First, If you here someone playing 1 string on a guitar hitting the same note over and over and over, you will call it shit and say it's not music same with songs if you sound like a dying frog no one is going to like it and they will call it shit, unless of course you are deaf thats why they show people at the beginning that suck on American idol everyone thinks they suck because they have no talent etc.

You apparently also have no clue what a label describes being called a "metalhead" etc. don't mean that you listen to just strictly metal and you're the darkest evilest person ever etc. it's a simple label that states the majority of the music you enjoy and listen to is metal of some type. so you could listen to death metal and listen to a little bit of country. it means nothing. as for the genre's a genre is based on certain things you hear in songs although to label a band is kind of pointless it does help classify certain things.
