Little too big for my taste, you have too much blank space around the main part.

Make it about this size or something.


And perhaps add a border? I like everything else though. 7/10

I agree with Rawr. Needs to be resized. The text needs work yet. Kind of plain. Maybe change the color to have it blend better? (eye drop a shade of red from the render) I also would have liked it more if the smudges were all in one direction. Or at least curve to one direction (ie up). But all in all, good job for your first

This is decent for your first. You have potential. Try and read some tutorials on blending the render more into the background. Also you don't seem to have a light source.

You could have made more use of the lighting there. There was a lot of potential but you sort of killed it with the black gradient. Try reading some tutorials on lighting. ^_^

To make a border, press ctrl+a then go to Edit > Stroke > and set the border to whatever pixels you want + the color.

 

Hey now Yours may be better, but if he just takes yours then he won't learn how to do it himself . Let him learn how to make one just like the one you made and then he can be proud of his very own sig made by him.

I like that you used smudging. Seems like no one is smudging on their first signatures anymore. On your next, try to incorporate a light source and make the text compliment the focal more. Also, the background is a little plain.

I suggest you find a tutorial of a signature that has very strong lighting. Contrary to what many people say, lighting isn't a 100px soft brush with opacity turned down. That is part of it, but you need to build your whole signature with your lighting source. Make the whole thing work together. Your smudges, burns, black brushing, and erasing can all work to strengthen your lighting.

It will take some time, but keep working to improve, that is a very good first signature.
