Well, I attempted to make my own forum just recently.
    And failed miserably. Very sad.

So, does anyone here know how to make a forum? Most people worth asking on the forum ignore me, so I decided to ask here. I need help, because I am totally new to this. Thanks.

Well, first of all, you'll need some friends. (Or willing participants.)
You will not be able to bring activity to a forum without starting it yourself.

Then you will need to bring "something new", content-wise, because no one will join your forum and leave their former when they see no reason to join. And when I say bring something new, I don't mean shit like install an arcade or anything, because that's garbage, and makes your site look like trash.

And when advertising, don't advertise on sites with similar content but more activity, because that will make your site look worse, in turn, getting no one to join. And just so you know, spamming sites is not a good idea, as it will only bring you trouble on your site.

The site has to be visually appealing, obviously, but don't over do it; you don't need flash, or music. And one skin is enough.

And please don't use invisionfree (or any similar) because it will be no different from any other garbage-y sites, and looks like you put little effort into it.

Google will be your best source of information at all times.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=phpbb3+install+tutorial&btnG=Search

Go with phpbb3 (http://phpbb.com/). It's free, relatively easy to set up and maintain, not to mention it's full of addons and guides, so you should have no trouble once you know the basics.

    http://www.x10hosting.com/

You will need a host as well; I believe their control panel (cpanel) comes in with a built-in installer for phpbb2/phpbb3; if it does, you can basically scratch everything before this paragraph, and set up your own forum within a few clicks.

Thinking like that isn't going to help you succeed in this website you wanted.

Well, I am trying to be realistic. I realize I should also be optimistic, but I am starting to get very discouraged. This is alot of time and effort I don't have right now, especially since school is starting soon. I will most likely end up NOT doing this, and trying to become a mod or something on another forum. =|
