I don't really agree with you but at the same time I do I agree at the last paragraph you wrote. Something I would just like to add the bigger ipods etc. aren't meant for just songs, there meant for videos, games and other things which obviously take up far more space than a little 3-8mb song.

I doubt you have 40k songs I would also doubt that you have anywhere near it. AS I have only meant a few people who own a great deal of songs (40k+) including myself and they all like myself listen to nearly every genre and have been collecting new and old songs since they were in kindergarten. But never the less, read above for the actual reason for such big ipods etc.

You people infuriate me with all this ignorance. guess what that copy of something is? property which has value to the owner, guess what stealing means? taking property from an owner, therefor it is stealing, it may not be directly worded but if you can not come to realize this then I do believe you need to be taken from this earth because a retarded child has enough intellect to figure that out.

 

Pirating is TOTALLY wrong, Shredder could not be more wrong. If someone makes a song, and you like it, is it not worth buying? Let's say it was made illegal to copyright songs and other ideas, people would stop making them. And if people stopped making them, what are you going to do? Make your own songs? I think not.

Guess what? You don't automatically own copies of your property. If I painted a wonderful painting, and somebody copied it, I don't own that copy. If I make a fantastic CD, and people make copies, I don't automatically own that copy.

You have yet to explain how ideas/concepts can be owned (note that intellectual ownership is not justified by the artist's need for the money, or whether they get upset over the "pirating").

Are you arguing for intellectual property rights based upon the fact that it makes the music industry more active? That is completely irrelevant. Ownership laws are based upon logic and natural law - they are not mixed and matched to produce the most pleasant music scene for you.

You own the original copy though do you not? and copyright laws protect this, and allow you to sell people the "copies" and there copyright laws then do the same to them so unless you BUY it you do not own it therefore it is stolen. Also don't even say your little idealistic ways of how laws aren't bound etc. because that is simply a ploy to defend something you can't win against.

Pirating is the best thing since the internet started. All the free things you can want. FOR FREEEEE. lol I've been pirating for years got about 7 terabyte of movies alone from it. I love movies! lol

 

The artist owns the original copy, yes. However, they do not own copies that they sell (transfer ownership) to another person.

The artist owns the original copy, you are right, they then sell out to a record company which mass produces it and then sells it on a large scale and gives the band a sum of the profits, therefore the only people at this time that own it are the artists themselves and the record company right? Then the copyright laws that are enforced when a record company sells the albums, protects it from being shared to the world. you yourself the person who bought the album is entitled to the songs and copies you make of the songs no one else, therefore with that in mind it is stealing if you take songs in which you personally did not pay for.

 

No, all of the people who purchase the album also own that album. If they want to distribute it across the internet for free, they can, as that copy is theirs.

The copyright laws are ridiculous. They aim to prevent people who already own copies of the album from distributing them. It is an attempt to control the property of others.

 

The idea is that you acquire a license to use/view the media you buy yourself, rather than actually buying right to own that media.
