    Selling Kidneys for money

Do you belive people should be able to sell their kidney to make some money? I saw this program on Nat. Geo how poor people in Thailand would sell their kidney for money on the black market (now in Thailand it is legal to sell organs) for up to $10,000. For the people in Thailand that is a IMMENSE ammount of money and they can buy a house, and food. It will change their life for ever and it can help save people that are having kidney failures, which is fatal.

So my question is do you belive people should be able to sell their kidneys to get out of poverty and save someone else's life?

My answer is yes, because a life is saved and a life is changed for the better.

Please vote or post your answer and explanation if you would.

This really comes back to the whole self-ownership issue. If you accept it as valid, then of course people should be allowed to sell their extra organs, if they really wish to.

Yeah, you should be able to. It's not up to the government to decide what you can do with your organs, so why shouldn't you be able to sell them?

More people would be saved from the extra kidneys then would be harmed or killed in the process of giving them.

Of course you should be able to if you really wanted. Selling them benefits you and the buyer significantly.

Can anyone offer an opposing argument, I don't see why it should not be allowed.

Well I was born with a tumor on my kidneys so I had to get it taken out. I only have one kidney so I don't think I can donate it lol.

I think that all people should be able to give kidneys though, because they can help save lives and the donator can earn some money.

    Not in America.

If you ever take government, you will learn that our legal system is setup against "acts of desperation". The same laws that say you cannot sell your body (slavery), "protect" you from selling your kidney.

I can possibly see grounds for an organ black market, but without regulation things may become even more messy.

Last I checked, there's no legal version of human traficing, consensual or not.

You don't have the right to sell your soul.

I should be allowed to do whatever with my body, however i want to as long as it does not physically hurt another person.

In fact, it would benefit both parties. This guy gets to live, and i get some money.

Like my guidance counselor suggested in 5th grade (it was for a fighting thing, but it works in this) its a win win situation

The people in thialand are forced into selling there organs, there isnt alot of chioce, and the buyers sell them for much more, and control who gets them.

It would better if you take out the middle man, but even then its still not right.

there will always be a middle man. even if you try to take him out. what do you expect a wealth man, walks into thailands poverty striken area about to die. and says "okay i need a kidney to live i will pay you $10,000." he would get mauled over by the people and probably killed in search for his money.
the middle man can find the right people and he doesnt make too much money. the thailandese people the can make up to 10K and the average cost for a trip to thailand and operation is 19K so they are still getting most of the money.

and noone is forced other that trying to save their own life

Poor living quality is what forces them, im sure they would all love to keep there kidneys. They have no choice but to sell them.

If a wealthy man wants a poor thialands organs, he should go there, and they will not maul him, people dont carry thousands of dollars on them and wealthy people go on holidays there all the time.

Also, the middle man is the one making the most money. think of it like farming. a farmer sells his fruit for 20 cents a kilo, while the middle man sells it for $4. there making a killing. the people who buy the fruit off the middle man isnt making jack.
