Iron Knives or steel plates?

Right now I have 77 smithing and I'm tryin for 99. I have 11k iron ore and 29k coal atm to. Which would be faster, iron knives (with rings of forging) or steel plate bodys?

 

defnitly iron knives sense u can only get smelt 9 steel bars at a time and u can smelt 28 iron bars per thing

steel plates...cuz after ur done you can alch them.

 

I'm more concerned with fast smithing exp at the moment.

 

Steel Plates.

 

If you want fast, then steel plates is the way to go.

If you want less money loss, then do iron knives.

 

plates = fast way.

 

And now I'll pull a Math out of my magic hat!

Iron- With rings of forging, you can make 28 bars(350xp) per load, which is 140 iron knives(700xp),which adds up to 1050xp per trip to furnace. Total Xp per 100 bars=~3750xp
Steel- You can make 9 bars(157.5xp) per load, which is 1.8 steel plates(337.5xp), which adds up to 495xp per trip to furnace. Total Xp per 100 bars=~5500xp

So, with iron, you make more xp per trip to furnace, but steel makes more xp per bar. Plus, with steel plates, you smith 1 in the same time as smithing 5 bars of iron into knives, which means you are smithing the steel bars 5x faster. You smelt iron about 3 times faster than you smelt steel, so all together, you are smithing steel 1.666x faster than you smith iron, plus it gives better xp. You are DEFINITELY going to want to go with steel plates.

steel pl8s because even after smelting the ores in2 bars you get the experience for makeing into pl8s which is 5 bars at a time which is fast..
