I suggest you listen to a lot more then maybe 2-3 dm bands etc. there are a lot of different types from satanists to Christian shit and everything in between.

He was jokingly agreeing with me. There would be no reasoning for him to say something like that to me when we both agree on the same types of music correct?

a few of these bands aren't even metal and even fewer deserve to be considered good.

Who exactly are you speaking to saying this? lol

Great list on the first post, but I like SOAD & Slipknot too.

SOAD's music has some meaning, but (I think Swan said this) too many people found it more funny.

Children of Bodom is the second-best on that list.

    (NOTHING beats Maiden.)

I've heard a few Death Metal bands like Cannibal Corpse, Decapitated, and Death, but it's just too brutal and I don't find it entertaining, but I have to admit that many Death Metal songs have awesome riffs. The only Death Metal band I listen to is Bring Me the Horizon, but they're Deathcore, close enough I guess.

Riffs are really generic, nothing much creative about it. Tonally, the guitars are also bland, very little technique. The composition of their songs are varied though, I'll give them that.

Okay, I'll listen to those bands soon, and I've heard Demon Hunter before and I they're really good but they're Christian Metal and Metalcore, not Death Metal.

Just so you know, Sinergy is Melodic / Power Metal (I think) and features the same guitarists from Children of Bodom. Kimberly Goss (the singer) is Laiho's ex-wife.

Most of those if not all the bands you posted are overrated. Melo Death as a whole is very overrated and has lame pc nerd fans. Tech death is more interesting and definitely shows a little more originality within irregular time patterns etc.

Popularity has nothing to do with how good or bad music is except the basic rule that most people enjoy unoriginal music.

melo death can be just as difficult as tech death. having a random line means nothing most technical death metal I find more easier to play then a lot of melo death, so in that instance it's not overrated and I believe both deserve there dues as does the majority of the other styles of metal.

I didnt say anything about difficulty, I just said I find melo death boring. Skill level really has nothing to do with musicality in the end and I will always give a good song writer much more credit than someone who can blaze away at their instrument, shit I got bored of playing most shred stuff at 14. I dont write off melo death as a whole, there is definitely some good shit to be had... just that the style is in my opinion nerdy and overrated.

Most melo-death got boring after the first few albums by w/e band...except for In Flames. I still listen to their earlier albums, very good stuff. Dark Tranquility, what most people compare In Flames to be like, has ALWAYS been just....mediocre. Sounds like power metal with no-good dm vox to me.
