GOOD Metal

I am sick of over-hyped (and very bad) bands such as Slipknot and System of a Down.

This thread is to discuss actual GOOD Metal bands, such as the following:

Iron Maiden
Opeth
Dream Theater
Children of Bodom (they are popular, but not over-hyped, they are very good)
Morbid Angel
Death
Exodus
In Flames

Most of the old bands define what good Metal is. Iron Maiden, for example, are unique, and have a distinct sound that no other band can match.

 

Technical Death Metal=good....just of the top of my head lol.

Slipknot and SOAD overhyped? roflmao. If those are overhyped then Children of Bodom is definitely overhyped, they're vocals are horrible, only have a good beat. Also, some of those bands aren't popular maybe just maybe because they're death metal.

Go to your school ask them if they know who soad or slipknot are, they will say something like "hell yeah that shit is badass" or something ignorant then asking about children of bodom they will say " who the hell is that" just because a lot of people on here enjoy there music and maybe some people you know irl don't mean the masses know of them all that well. and to be honest slipknot and or soad can't compare to any band on this thread thus far.

As for children of bodom , you think alexi's vocals are horrible? they certainly aren't great but for a death metal or melodeath perspective there some of the better ones you can understand him a lot better than most and not to mention has great lyrics for example.

Just because a band is very well known and everyone knows about them, doesn't mean they suck, that's a stupid way of saying a band sucks. Plus, Iron Maiden is well known and the reason nobody knows about those death metal bands is because they all suck, no one listens to it. Actually, a band not being well known has a higher chance of being a bad band since nobody listens to them, or they could be good it's just that no one has ever checked them out, which is normally not the case.

 

Children of Bodom became popular because they have good music. System of a Down became popular because some idiots thought the lyrics were more funny than meaningful. I've been down that road, I used to like SOAD until I realized it sucked majorly.

Iron Maiden is an excellent band. They're popular because they've been around since the late 70s (or early 80s?) and practically defined NWOBHM. Iron Maiden is the inspiration for MANY of today's bands.

No-one listens to the Death Metal bands because they suck? Fool! Look at the "Children of Bodom - Chaos Ridden Years / Stockholm Knockout Live" concert, or perhaps a download festival ... Oh, or any of the Gigantours. Honestly, are you saying that people go to these concerts because they don't like the music?

Slipknot is just a terrible generic Heavy Metal band. Their music is hardly well composed from what I've heard of it.

and what exactly makes them so good? because 90% of there songs are retarded lyrics adding up to something about a genocide that happened? you can only milka tragedy for so long before it gets dull.

 

Well if you say death metal is so popular then Slipknot and SOAD are popular as you say they are making them good, and believe me, they're more popular than death metal. Death metal makes metal look bad, it's a guy roaring into a microphone that worships the devil or some shit. The most common and original Metal is Alternative.

 

Holy shit, what the fuck has happened to metal. People like this I'm afraid. Did you even read the other people's posts? Slipknot has no fucking talent. My friends have shown me interviews were the 9(only 4 do anything.) musicians say their music sucks and the only reason they are still playing in the band is because of the money. Just noticed you used the word beat to describe metal...That's the most broad word I've ever heard used to describe music XD. It's like saying "yea, that time signature is KICK ASS!"

He was being sarcastic, that and he was saying that these bands, even though they aren't popular like Slipknot, still get recognition and people still like them. You misunderstood him, I think.

The lyrics to all of Slipknot songs are completely idiotic, childish etc (as with most songs blatant and spontaneous swearing in order to seem more "bad ass"). Care to give me an example of brilliant themes, etc presented in any of Slipknot's lyrics?

Not ONE song of Slipknot's has musically impressed me and ultimately they never will because it's clear they're nothing more than a bunch of idiotic Neanderthals in masks trying to seem hardcore.



And btw XX mdv xx, you're a complete idiot, why criticize a genre that you clearly have no knowledge on?

Check out Nile, Quo Vadis, Kalmah, Spawn of Possession, Necrophagist, I dare you to find me a shred of reference to worshipping satan in any of their songs.

 

Back on topic, I bought the new Lamb of God DVD yesterday. The parts when they were touring in Japan were the funniest.

 

Oh dude, Lamb of God is awesome, I plan on buying the DVD as well. Also I'm not sure if these bands are over-hyped, but I think they're not so I'm going to post them.

Are you new to rock music? And I bet you played Guitar Hero. Led Zeppelin is usually considered to be beyond debate XD. Metallica wasn't overhyped (notice the past tense.) Iron Maiden is classic metal, geniuses. Don't think of music in such narrow terms as "It's overhyped" or "It's boring." Usually people who do that are elitist trying desperately to be smart.
