Dammn, that's really unfortunate.
To answer your question I need some more information.
What kinda car has been damaged? Is the damage only a part of the doors/fenders or is it on the whole thing?

My guess would be from 170-750$ depending on what car has been damaged.

 

The mirror alone is gonna be 300-500$ depending on the body shop prices. FeelsBadMan. As @holy cherrys said, if full-coverage is too expensive for you or if there is any other reason why you don't have it, dashcam is a must.

Also price can vary a lot if they decide to straighten your doors or replace them completely.

 

If the frame of the car is fucked, it will probably be much more than $750 ;l

 

Go to a couple shops, they might be trying to rip you off.

 

7k Is definitely too much, just check out multiple shops and get an estimated price.

 

If the car still operates ok and the door works, there might be a good argument for keepinf and using it, or keeping it for somebody else later (thinking kids or wife). I doubt you'd get very much for trade in value. Even if the driver side doors don't work at all, climbing in from the passenger side isn't a big deal for kids. Definitely think it's more equitable to keep the car.

 

Let's be real here, this all depends on the shop, who's doing it, the quality of the work, what you want back out of it, etc.

You cheapest bet would be to go to some sort of auto wrecker, and find your best shaped door.
Sand down the door manually by hand with different sand papers (or use sanding tool if you can afford)
Get pain for primer + colour matched door paint
Buy yourself a canister and pain't the door

Take out the interior pieces in the rear, put a flat piece of wood onto the inside of the quarter panels.
Use some form of heat on the paint and bash out the fender with a hammer, against the wood, against the fender.

After that, sand the shit out of them and re-paint them the same way as the door.

Honestly bro it would probably only cost you like $500 to do it this way. Door + Paint.

It won't look perfect but it would look a hell of alot better.

If the whole car is bent then that's another problem.

I assume the dealer you were buying from wouldn't take your old car as a trade-in? They'd low ball you on the value but it'd safe the hassle of trying to sell it. Either way it's done already so it doesn't matter, I was just curious.

For those surprised at the price he was quoted, automotive paint is pretty much the most hefty part of a bill when repairing a car - each manufacturer uses their own formulas for the different cars and colours (and those also vary slightly from year to year, making it even more fun getting a match).

That could have been used to your advantage when lodging a report with the police...since it's just some damage to your car I guess they wouldn't bother taking a paint sample, but if they had they would have been narrow down what kind of car did the damage by a LOT (since it'd be a specific brand and specific models in a very short year range).

For the future, I'd recommend having a front and rear dash cam. There are some that will activate even while the car is off when a collision is detected and start recording.

Sad to hear someone decided to hit and run. I got rear-ended yesterday, and luckily he stopped. Luckily I have many cars, as I flip cars, so I can afford the time for this one to be in the shop. I'll include a pic of the smashed car below:
