[Guide] Basic Guide To American Football [Guide]

    Basic Guide To American Football
    ______________________________________

Introduction - Hey, this is my fifth guide and probably the last I need to finish my application. Though I may make one or two more. I'm not in the best of moods at to be truthful - I can't really be bothered writing this guide. Just really want to finish off my application then I can sit back and relax while the decision of me is talked over.

Anyway, this guide is about American Football. No, I don't really know much about it but it seems like I have found enough information as I need to make a guide on it. Also, when reading, if you find any spelling mistakes then please forgive me. I was over at my mates all night yesterday and we did an all-night-er. So I'm extremely tired.

I'll still try my hardest, though. I hope to try and make this guide as successful as all my previous ones, which were given fairly good ratings all round. And take this into mind - I'm not American, so I'm not into this sport at all. Don't go on saying I missed certain things out. I know it's not spam or anything but 99% of the time I won't understand what you mean.

Well, this is pretty simple so I better not get this wrong or god knows what the rest of the guide will be like. Anyway, that is a picture of the playing field. Sorry that you have to turn your head to see what it says, I just think it looks better like that. Yes, call me fussy. Back on topic - The field is rectangular measuring around 100 yards long.

It's also around 53 yards wide. The goal lines at both ends of the 100 yard stretch mark a kind of entrance to the End Zones which measure 10 yards. While I'm on the subject of the "End Zone" then I'll mention scoring. I'll sum it up simply - Use your skills to get past all the opponents till you reach there End Zone, this will score you a "Touchdown".

In the middle of each End Zones, right at the back are two pretty tall Goalposts, symmetrical on either side. The posts height is, if I'm not mistaken, 10 Foot. Also, in the middle of the two posts there is a horizontal crossbar stretching from one post to the other. The crossbars are around 18 Foot wide, from each post.

The touchdown, which I talked to you about above, is worth six points. To score, the ball must either be carried through/over the line or passed to a player while in the opponents end zone. The touchdown is the biggest single score which you can get in the game. Once a team scores a Touchdown they have a chance to get an extra point or two, read bellow.

Immediately following a Touchdown being made, the ball is placed on the opponents two-yard line. Most commonly, a member of the time will try to kick the ball through the two posts gaining his team an additional one point. Less commonly, the team can have a go at trying to get the ball into the End Zone, starting from the two-yard line. This scores two points.

Sometimes, if the offence cannot score a touch down, they can try for a Field Goal. They are worth three points and often are played in the last few seconds of the game. Field Goals can be attempted from anywhere on the field, but obviously, people will try and get as close to the posts as they can before attempting a shot/Field Goal.

For players to score a good field goal the play kicked (also known as the goal kicker) must hit the ball through the goal post, trying to get it as far in the middle as they can and over the crossbar. Another way to score points is the Safety. This is like a foul really, it is worth two points and happens when the ball-carrier is tackled behind his own goal line.

The beginning of the game is very similar to Football/Soccer. At the start, the referee will call up both captains from each team to toss a coin. This determines which team will kick and which team will receive the ball. The team which is kicking will place the ball tee and the captain will stand behind it, while the rest of the team stand behind him.

The opponents will then spread out over the field in a certain formation. The kicker will then kick the ball from the tee which is caught by the kick returner (Also known as the KR) who will then try to carry the ball all the way to the other teams End Zone, obviously, this is very rare and hardly ever happens since it one man against a whole team.

Usually, the Kick Returner is just tackled. The position where the ball carrier is brought down is called the Line of Scrimmage, meaning where the teams offence will now take control of the ball. If the ball is kicked out of the End Zone then this will result in a "Touch Back". The team will start from it's own twenty-yard line. Read more bellow.

The ball will then be passed back to the offence where he will try and run as far as he can in the opponents field. Though, the opposing defence will be after him as soon as he gets the ball. So this is also very hard to do, but it can be pulled off if your very good at the sport. Bellow is the last section, mainly going to be about the the officials.
    ______________________________________

Here's the last section of my thread. Like I said above, this is about the officials, like in Football. Though, in this sport they use seven main officials, they are: a referee, an umpire, a field judge, a linesman, a back judge, a line judge, and a side judge. The referee is probably the most important as he is in charge of the game at all times.

The referee is the over-all decider of all the decisions made in the game. He can supervise all of the other officials participating, decides on almost all decisions made through-out each game and enforces penalties. Though, he cannot decide everything, since there wouldn't be much need for the other officials. Different officials have different things to decide.

The umpire can make decisions concerning players equipment. The lineman's main job is to mark the position of the ball at the end of each play. The Field Judges job is to simple time the game with a stopwatch. Also, on the17Th of March 1999, the owners of the game decided to bring back instant replay because of hard decisions that could never be made.

And I guess that's my fifth guide over and done with. I'll say it again, I might make another one or two more guides before I finish my application to raise my chances of getting into the User Education Team. Now, I've had to finish because I'm off now. Please rate from 1-10 and leave a little comment about the rating you gave me, etc.

    One word.

    DRUGS.

What are you on mate? His guides aren't "nice", they're "plagirized", or better yet "rippped".

See? This is an example, I just made up an quote using you!

" Don't compliment an criminal caught in the act ".

    Not very catchy, but true.
