Not in SFA, unless you're going to be intelligent about it (refer to the stickies).

Any idiot could've changed that definition of fact seconds before you quoted it.

That's what we call evidence that something is true :).

Evolution: "Here are the facts, lets see if we can draw a conclusion from it."

Creationism: "Here is the conclusion, lets see if we can find any facts to support it."

Creationism is already being taught in schools. I have attended a Catholic elementary and High School (ironic isn't it? Being atheist and all......Long story) and the matter is taken very seriously. I remember that i once stumped one of the nuns on a question about it.

Though your not asking me, I feel I'd like to share my opinion. True theres no real proof/evidence to support creationism. But everything has to come from something. So where did the very first thing in this universe come from?

Before something along big bang comes up, where did the big bang come from?

Before the argument of "where did god come from?". It is beyond our knowledge. Lets say everyone believed in God. A supernatural being such as god, that has created us and everything we know with all that power. Would we even be capable of understaind how something such as this came to be?

On topic: I'm Catholic, and I don't believe creationism should be taught in schools. It's based on faith. I believe evolution should be taught in schools though, as there is sufficent facts to support the theory.

Also evolution is being taught in schools. I'm just wondering if everyone here knows this?

The very first "thing", for lack of a better word, could not have come from anything else, or we would have an infinite regress on our hands.

The Big Bang does not refer to "time zero". It refers to just after the beginning of the universe, and covers the rapid expansion from then on.

If God is the "root node", so to speak, then he is a complex one. I think Occam's razor applies.

No, because there is not a theory on god.

I would drop out if they taught such a class.

Yes, I believe both side should be taught instead of misleading people. If you really do research on evolution.. Evolution seems as something Si-Fi, I see how Christianity has a huge chance of being true.. as For instance.. the bible was here before Christopher Columbus right? Well, Christopher Columbus discovered the earth was round (when everyone thought it was flat).. But if you read the bible.. It says the earth was round the whole time.

    You're an idiot.

There is no proof that anything in the bible is true, the writings are third-person recounts that were written hundreds of years after these "events" happened. Back then, intelligence was limited, so they wrote what they thought was true.

How is there a high chance of Christianity being true? What about Islam? Judaism? Hinduism? What about Greek Mythology? Paganism? Did you know that Christianity is the just the best elements of all the Pagan religions it condemns?

What makes one religion truer than the other? For that matter, what makes religion truer than Darwinism or Atheistic beliefs (which are backed up by proof and theory of logic and science, not because of a magical deity)?

Creationism should certainly NOT be taught in schools. It is teaching an irrational belief that is not backed up by any proof, which is just as good as teaching something false, and learning false content is NOT what students are at school for. What if a Maths teacher said that the Sine ratio was the Tangent? How do you think the students would be marked on a Trig. Exam?

I go to a Lutheran school, and ironically, I'm Atheist. The Theists at my school can never back up their beliefs ... They aren't smart enough to even know what they believe in most of the time.

LMAO. christopher didnt discover this, Galileo did is some 400bc, and so did pythagoris in like 300bc. so the bible wrote what was known for hundreds of years.

The buddhists believed the world to be around 13 billion years old, and now with science and mathimatics the universe is to believe to be around 13 billion years old. you would think oh god must have told them, to bad they dont believe in a god.

    Creationism vs. evolution

Existence is absolute, it didn't come from anywhere, it simply IS. It's eternal, no beginning, no end.

In the US, evolution is mandatory in High School (public educational systems, not privately owned). Ironic enough, the way we learned about evolution in our school was in 3rd grade, we saw a horribly animated film about a monkey being chased by a sabertooth and ended up in a dead-end - lightning coincidentially stroke a nearby tree, a club-like branch caught on fire and fell down on the sabertooth, killing it. The monkey just looked astonished, picked up the club and now learned to use hunting tools and fire, despite the fact that Neanderthals were the first ones to learn this. Alas, it had absolutely nothing to do with evolution either.

Yep, that's all we learned. Talk about proper evolutionary teachings. o_O

Evolution may seem like Sci-Fi to you, but what does Creationism sound like? A Harry Potter-like story? Primitive Sci-Fi?

Christianity has a minimal shot of being correct. There are literally thousands of religions, and Christianity just happens to be a plagiarized one. They've drawn the majority of their beliefs from Paganism, and the story about the saviour of the world whom was killed in order to save our souls has been told multiple times way before Christ was even born. In fact, the story about Jesus's life seems suspiciously much like the life of Mithra:

    Mithra was born Dec. 25
Mithra was a great travelling teacher and master
    Mithra has 12 disciple-companions
    Mithra performed miracles
    Mithra was crucified
Mithra was buried in a tomb
Mithra rose again after 3 days in the tomb
Mithra's resurrection was celebrated every year (untill Judaism rose and eliminated Mithraism)
Mithra was called the Good shepherd
Mithra was considered the Way, Truth and Light, Redeemer, Savior and Messiah by the vast majority of people
Mithra was identified as both Lion and the Lamb
Mithra's sacred day is Sunday (the Lord's Day)
Mithra's principal festival came to be known as Easter (after his resurrection)
    Mithra's religion had a Eucharist (Lord's Supper).

... And it doesn't even stop there, there are 16 other crucified 'saviours' in history, I can post them if anyone wants me to.

Now, what makes you think Jesus is the true lord and saviour? Keep in mind, the Bible repeatedly contradicts itself, scientific facts and theories, historical facts, logic and reasoning - think about that next time you evaluate your beliefs.

On-topic, no I don't think Creationism should be taught in public schools. Creationism is an ideology much like reincarnation, spiritual healing, etc, NOT a scientific theory. Religion is, and should always remain, a private matter. Learn about Creationism in Church or from other Christians/Muslims/Jews if you want to.

Evolution seems something like sci-fi, eh? I think you're using the Argument from Personal Incredulity...

The Bible doesn't state that the Earth is round. Even if it did, accuracy on some matters does not imply accuracy on all matters.

    Revelation 7:1
1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. (KJV)

    Matthew 4:8
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; (KJV)

It clearly says the Earth is flat.

    On topic:

I don't think neither Evolution nor Creation should be taught in schools. Overall, I think Christianity has the worst chance of being true over many world religion. Which is a sad occasion because almost everytime when Creation and Evolution is compared, Christianity is used as the basis of creationism.

    I myself, am a Muslim.

No, it teaches children the wrong idea. Children should be able to think what they want unless of course they go to church. I for one do not believe in creationism. Evolution ftw.

I won't argue with you.. The fact is, Something has always been here.. and thinking that it started with a piece of bacteria is more of a religion than a God

"God is our ignorance; science, our knowledge." Has it ever occured to you that our way of life is wrong? Our life is based off science.. but is it really science or is it right..?

Both are being teached atm, RE (religious education), and science which covers a few evolution topics. However, the evolution theory has evidence which backs it up, like how birds evolute etc, but the human part of it, where we apparantly were bacteria, the fish, then monkey's etc, fails in my opinion. God however, does exist, as there must have been something or someone, to create this/these universe(s). Nothing can't be created without a creator. Science, might have found out that, the gasses and dust, exploded etc, and then planets came blabla, but there was a reason for that to happen. It doesn't exist by itself.

Christianty is moslty used as the "base religion" in discussion topics, which makes religion, seem less true. The bible, itself has been changed so many times, if Christianity was the "right" religion, you think god would accept the humans to change the bible so often, just to make life a bit easier? Also sinning, asking for giveness has a limit, unlike in chrisitianty where you can almost do anything so many times, and still be forgiven.

You should look at islam, the quran has never been changed, and so many facts in it, have come true, which no1 could have ever predicted so long ago. All those stuff about how humans are inside and outside, how tectonic plates move, how mountains exist, and many many more topics that science has just discovered were already written in the quran, that alone proves its existence, you should do some research in your language about it, and find out for yourself.

What about theory with supporting facts makes it more of a religion? Scientific discoveries and theories hold proof of themselves, whereas a God is simply a belief which requires the cowardly gambling that you call "faith."

We exist as biological life-forms. We survived because of Natural Selection; one could say: "Survival of the fittest." What is wrong about our way of life? The way I live is the way I want to live, and to be honest, even if it did have a significant impact on others, I don't care. What's wrong about that?

Life is scientifically explainable. Science helps sustain life with various chemicals and medicines. Without Science, you would probably be dead.

This is exactly what I meant.

If using Creation vs Evolution, dont use Christianity as a base.
