Planet fitness vs Other gyms

Just wondering on everyone's thoughts on a planet fitness gym or similar (No cutoffs, no slamming weights, etc) vs a gym that is like family owned.

I currently own a gym and a planet fitness opened up about 3 years after us.

Which would you prefer to workout at? I feel like the more serious people go to our gym and people who just go to go, end up at planet fitness.

Planet Fitness is not intended for anyone to seriously workout but it does serve a lot of people very well. Some of the policies like the lunk alarm are pretty amusing

 

Hahaha I saw vids of planet fitness. How they hand out pizza's to people joining their gym. Lol I Always laugh when I think about it.

 

Small gym businesses should always be better. Except if they have funky rules with noise and weight dropping.

The fact that plant fitness has pizza for their members is useless. What are they trying to do? Their members which are most likely trying to lose weight leave the gym with more calories than when they showed up!

The only people that can benefit from pizza are the ones trying add weight or get stronger which none of the above is a plant fitness member.

 

Planet fitness is for beginners or people who don't want to commit to working out. Also its extremely cheap so anyone can sign up. I used to go when I first started.

 

it's ok for basic workouts not for more advanced ones

 

I had to use planet fitness when I was in college because it's cheap as hell. Only real reason. Family owned gyms or garage gyms are best for anybody who seriously is interested in working out. Planet fitness is decent for the average Joe who wants to do something basic.

 

Planet Fitness is for People doing Basic workouts. It's pretty decent for the average dude who just wants to do something Basic.

 

what are you trying to accomplish at the gym?

Planet fitness cheap and 24/7 which is really helpful, limited machines but you still can get a nice workout in. Only difference is the smith machines make it easier for you because it balances it out for you, when you try benching at another gym it'll be hard as fuck as your body is used to the smith balancing the bar for you. Other gyms like golds, shit closes fucking early due to bull shit.

 

Literally max out everything at PF, not aloud to powerlift there can barely freely deadlift there (not even sure if it's allowed, night crew lets me) I pay $20 more then the usual PF membership but can do whatever I want lol.

 

pf sucks, honestly i had one a trial and it sucks

So as a Planet Fitness member I can say from my experience that Planet Fitness is a great place if you're just starting to work out, after all it is judgement free. They have a cheap cost and always have trainers available for free to help you develop a work out routine and to make sure you are doing the exercises properly. Once you get into a good routine and you start seeing and feeling the changes to yourself I think that is where looking into other gyms becomes a viable option. Planet Fitness is limited in the amount of machines and free weights as its meant to be more of a "starter gym".

As far as the lunk alarm, I admit I think its a great lol. I have hardly heard it go off though, only when people are purposefully dropping/slamming weights.

 

If you don't bench/squat/deadlift pf will be fine. Otherwise I would go to a different gym.

 

I like PF. I sound like a loser, but not having huge guys come and bother me every 10 mins about how I should start lifting or giving me tips is a blessing. I'm a pretty average sized guy too.

 

More serious trainers would like to go to a more underground style family-owned looking place, but also keeping it professional
looking with good quality equipment etc. I think all of the new nice gyms and stuff have way to much money invested into fancy
things that can break easily so they have to make up all of these rules and policies.

 

Any reasonable person would workout at a proper gym. PF ain't that.
