Russian- Georgian War

In the wake of the Olympics, this happens. I'm sure many of you have already heard about this but what do you think of it? I found this article earlier and I thought I'd report it's contents for all to read. Is Russia right for attacking the Georgians? Discuss.

Its my opinion that Russia orchestrated the matter to garner sympathy and the moral high ground in the matter. Unless some legitimate, actual atrosity is commited by the Georgians, i support them entirely. Aggressive Russian expansion is exactly the sort of thing that needs to be dealth with immeditely and sternly by the UN.


The way I see it, Georgians should step up the bombing of South Ossetia. If the citizens truly are on the Russian side, (not to mention South Ossetia has been autonomous for years), its morally accountable. If Russia wants south Ossetia, they are welcome to a wasted countryside and a couple bombed out buildings.

 

Finally, someone posted about this . I agree with you PwB. South Ossetia is basically a dead weight to Georgia. If its only going to incite war, and the citizens want to be Russian (and if they are autonomous as you say) then Russia can have the Scorched Earth policy turned on them >. The only problem is if Russia gets greedy and wants to take more of Georgia. I doubt there would be any short-term solution to that. Besides nukes, but that'll just be the end.

 

I love how those Russians talk shit, then get raped by .8 seconds when they had the lead. What failures, attacking Georgia and such.

 

South Ossetia must have something of value there if Russia is willing to go to war for it. Maybe they know something the Georgians don't.

I think its pointless. All that is happening is innocent people are getting killed. An immediate cease fire should be called for

Now that i've brought up the matter of the petrol, i'll try to explain why russia hasnt already been dealt with:


Imagine if mexico and canada, our far and away most substantial oil suppliers, annexed texas on one side and new york on the other side. Short of going to war with them, what can be done when they can stop our cars from moving within a week, or simply grind our economy to a halt by destroying investor confidence.




Which is why I believe the following solution is by far the most effective and safest:

Kick Russia out of the G8. It is a political and pride hitting kick in the balls, and, by involving international agreement, prevents Russia from undertaking retaliation without more serious consequences. Instate China or India as the new G8 member, (or both and make the G9), and unless Russia decides to start a nuclear war, will be left on its knees, because honestly, both those countries will fight to the death for continued membership.
