Laws are not necessarily logical. Can you logically demonstrate how one can own an abstraction?

Ya your right you can't own an abstraction without anything legal. The laws were made so that you could. I would agree that these laws are necessary.

So by your way of thinking, laws are put in place to make illogical business models the law? And this is a good thing?

Photoshop doesn't have a value of over $500, it just has a pricetag of over $500. And stealing tangible assets is different from piracy in many ways. For example, Adobe loses nothing when most people pirate Photoshop, since they would never have spent over $500 on it anyway - they would have downloaded the GIMP instead, or something like that.

*facepalm*, Pirate Bay is a torrent indexing site and works in a similar way to the search engine Google, so the Swedish police are gathering the child porn and warez in vain, since the actual content isn't stored on the Pirate Bay servers.

I personally don't think that pirating is right, but I do it anyways because I usually don't have the money.

You can't, similar to happiness and sadness.

But even though you can't own an abstraction, there should be some sense of morality involved.

If you put in the work to make a big program and it took you alot of effort to program and fix bugs etc. would you like it if people just took it for free? I know you're atheist and since you don't believe in a god there is no reason for you to be moral.

It is definently not perfectly fine. It discourages the software authors to continue making programs. I understand you don't want to dish out 500$ but don't think it's perfectly fine....

Piracy is a crime, I do admit Ive bagged a few movies that where piracy.. but still, its not really a right thing to do. Also in the news they where talking about downloading music ilegaly can get you a £5000 fine, and they can get the information from people like BT,AOL who give out your website history's to third party's.

    Pirating? Wrong or Right?

I don't think you understand the big picture of software piracy. This is a pretty common argument that I'm sure other people have phrased better, but whatever, here goes.

I pirated photoshop 7 when I was 12 years old. The program probably cost more money than I had ever seen, but I didn't feel bad about "stealing" it. Even then I understood that I wasn't costing the company any money. It's not like I'd ever buy it anyway.
I continued using the program, and newer versions, for the next 6 years of my life, effectively creating a dependency on the program. Now I HAD to have the program. Without it, I was pretty much unable to create graphics. Being a web designer, this is a bad thing for me, since photoshop is expensive as hell.

This is where adobe makes the money. I now have a real job at a web design/search optimization company. They have the money to buy photoshop. They bought four copies of photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, and flash once I started working with them, since I said that it was the program suite I was familiar with. Had I not pirated all of these programs years ago, I would have no interest in ever using them commercially.

I have made adobe several thousand dollars because of my piracy.

Tell me again why I should feel bad?

I guess you're a fine example as why it didn't hurt them. But someone like me who has pirated different photoshop versions for his own need was just for my own benefit. I wan't going to pursue a career in web design etc.

If I did I would say that pirating in this case is O.K.

You still aren't hurting the company.

You have to understand that they don't even give a shit if you download it, you are just some kid.

They are trying to get businesses to buy it. That's where companies like Microsoft, Adobe, AutoCAD, etc make their money.
