Welcome to another guide by Dark Devil. In this guide I will show you how to remove a graphics card from your computer and adding a new one.

    FAQ

A small piece of hardware thats in your computer and shows how images are displayed on your monitor.

    Where can I get one?

Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, etc

    How much do they cost?

$20 to $2,500 ( usually the ones for $65 to $200 are great for games and do the job)

How can I protect myself when I remove/add a new graphics card?

screwdriver , static wrist strap ( so you don't get shocked)

What graphics card runs good for runescape or other games?

Nividia Geforce 7100+ , I myself have one and I can run runescape hd with no lag at all with all options up to high.

Include information on needing to download latest drivers, where from and why. What the risks are in using unsupported graphics cards, how to check your mobo can handle it etc.

not that good of a guide
first of all different graphic cards have different interfaces (pci, agp pcie)
2nd of all the 7100 sucks.
any onboard graphics can play runescape.

a good one would be the 8800 which goes at about 120 now, can play every game out (crysis on high)

Removing And Adding A New Graphics Card

Sad how eight people call this a good guide when it doesn't even mention the fact there are several different slots and graphics cards to fit in them.
It doesn't SHOW how images are displayed on your monitor, it FUCKING DISPLAYS WHAT IS ON YOUR MONITOR.

Almost always horribly overpriced. Best bet is getting one from a computer store or online.

Also pretty ridiculous that you use images for a PCI video card when they are all but obsolete (I do use one in my spare Pentium 3 but that's besides the point).

Until you include information about PCI (which is also used for many different pieces of hardware, AGP (its different versions 4x, 8x, etc), PCI Express (X16 and the new 2.0), ATI and NVidia chipsets (there's only two to talk about!) and what their functions/performances/uses are like and also how to install the different ones I can't even really consider this a guide at all. It's more of a topic with a bunch of pictures of the inside of an old computer and bad answers to simple questions. Maybe I'll take some pictures of the inside of my old Pentium 3 and call it a guide to installing hard drives since it has two of them.

Removing And Adding A New Graphics Card

I really dont think you have to keep your computer unplugged for a day or to before installing a new card...Iv installed new DDR2 RAM and a graphics card on mine within 10 minutes of unplugging my pc. Also not all graphic cards are compatible with certain motherboards and you forgot to talk about drivers wich are VERY important.

    4/10 Lacks alot of detail.

You can't get graphics cards for Laptops dude sorry :( They only run on their onboard Graphics chipsets (which are usually ugh). Also, you only made this guide for PCI cards, maybe should downdate it for AGP for those of us who still use it :).

Removing And Adding A New Graphics Card

*thinks to self* last post was days ago..ahh well =P *posts anyways*

Lets not post about something we know nothing about, okay?

Yes, you can get graphics cards for laptops, however, it depends on whether or not it is replacable in your specific laptop. This can usually be found out quite simply by whether or not you had an option for graphic cards when you ordered your laptop (if online), or if you can get the same model laptop with a better card (big box stores, etc)..If your not computer savvy, might be best to take it to a local shop and ask them, sure they can help you..

However, dont be mislead solely due to the fact that you can not purchase graphics cards for laptops in stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, etc..you have to order them online..

If anyone is interested, check out this article from PC World on upgrading the card in your laptop :p
