    China and Tibet?

I've been hearing about this on the news recently, and basically have no idea what it is about.

Post what you know about the China and Tibet issue, and what you believe is happening and why?

    China and Tibet?

Ok what I know so far goes back a long time back to when communist seized power in 1949.But as far as I know its about chinas foreign policy.
"At least 1,400 Tibetans including scores of monks and nuns were arrested by Nepalese police during a protest against Beijing's rule of the Himalayan region."
Im guessing that also has something to do with the recent uproar in behaviour.

"We want to give the millions of people who will watch the opening as well as the hundreds of athletes taking part the message that there are no human rights in Tibet," Tibetan student Tashi Tsering, 20, told AFP in Kathmandu.

Thats something else I found in my research for you. So Im going to go ahead and say that in lamence terms china is being a dillweed lol.

Thats where I found everything out dont really watch about the olympics so I had to look this up.

    China and Tibet?

China invaded Tibet in 1949, as a pure expansionist movement - completely unjustified. They exiled those who protested, including the Dalai Lama.

    Thank you, Communist meat-grinder.

    China and Tibet?

What do you mean by 'Thank you communist meat-grinder'?

So what is the news going on about now? Are Tibet fighting back or something?

    China and Tibet?

The thank you is sarcastic. The communist meat-grinder is China.

Basically, in 1950 China "liberated"/invaded Tibet resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, and has ruled the country ever since, abusing human rights as per usual.
Tibetan exiles and the international community have been "fighting back" since 1950, I haven't kept up with the news really, but I haven't read about anything big happening to change the situation.

    China and Tibet?

I believe that in Vancouver, there was a Tibetan who apparently put his arm inside a wooden tank, and when the tank was removed, his arm would break off. I'm not quite sure about the whole story, but that's what I heard on the radio a few days ago.

    China and Tibet?

actually, most of those protesting are foreigners in other countries, most of those in Tibet did more looting than demonstrating... and for all those people in Britain and USA who are pointing fingers at China, i have a few things to say...

America, the one that fought for independence from an imperial Britain, soon tried to acquire Cuba, the Philippines, and Hawaii as its own colonies, one of which did become annexed (against popular opinion btw).

Britain, well, here's a list of all their past colonies- India, America, Hong Kong, Palestine, Ghana, Nigeria, Somaliland, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Kenya, Zanzibar, Gambia, Botswana, and, this is rich, Tibet.

    **hypocrites**

In addition, I don't think most Tibetans oppose being a part of China, because I find it hard to believe that they would take Serfdom/slavery (which was practiced in pre-1950 Tibet) over their current lifestyle...

for all the ignorant people just posting bad comments (ie. meat-grinder -wtf-) on China, get your facts straight.

    China and Tibet?

Short of the invasion being undertaken by a communist government, the invasion had nothing to do with communism. Chinese expansionism is as economically indepedent as any aggressive nations expansionism. Its just that recent(i.e. 20th century) history would have us believe that communism is = to aggressive expansionism, which leads to the misconception.

    At the topic:

I'm not a supporter of chinese totalitarianism, but any student of history should note that to define what is "chinese" and what isnt is not a practical undertaking. China has never been a group of 1 people, 1 language, one land. Its an amalgamation along the lines more accurately of Russia(not the USSR, but kossaks, siberians, etc.). As westerners looking at similiar looking chinese people, we do not realize this collectively. Southern China and Northern China could quite literally be different countries, they are so different and un-united. What i'm getting at here is that to the chinese, they are simply ruling over another dominion of the greater chinese expanse. This is NOT an excuse NOR a valid reason for their actions and the purpose of their actions. I'm just making the point that to Chinese, their own actions are totally defensible. Never forget, as well, that both Chinese and Japanese believe in a destiny of ruling the world and subjugating the foreign devils.(atleast they used to)

I dont like China, but the faggots who from the comfort of their 1st world nation protest tibetan subjugation should go buy a gun and join the fight if they care so much. Its an extremely self serving and popular opinion that is shared by people ignorant of the situation, but is accepted because it makes everyone feel good about him/herself.

Meantime, has anyone even heard about the Russian invasion of Georgia? There's a cause worth fighting for.
