Do you believe world wide peace and prosperity is possible?

In our generation, the next, or the one after, do you think it's possible? One global community with one goal; prosperity. A world where the greater good matters, not just the profit or gain; financial, power, etc, of one individual. I truly doubt any of the people I would personally ask want division in the world, but thought I'd ask the Sythe community as it's something I have pondered since middle school as I grew up seeing all the division the world has gone to. Whether it be leaders (of many factions/parties/groups) doing all they can to dig up dirt on their opponents, to terrorism. This world is very divided.

As for myself. I say yes, but it will/would take time and a lot would need to be redone. One example being the issue of the media. Many are blind and only adhere to what is said by the media or what really happens, so that is all they believe. If you do or do not, I would still like to see your answer to see how other individuals think, and maybe spark an intelligent discussion.

 

Sadly the realistic answer, in my opinion, is no. Human nature is deeply rooted in conflict and any sort of society with absolutely zero violence, corruption or conflict is essentially impossible.

 

As it currently stands it is not possible. Our lives are dependant on materialistic items as well as comfortable living conditions. Ultimately, we'd rather have them even if others lose out. Be it, taking their resources or privatising their basic living needs. Unfortunately, with this concept; conflict is inevitable and sustainability is ever more so critical.

However, our technological advancements 'i hope' are at the very beginning of what's capable. I believe once we invent artificial intelligence that is far more advanced than our way of thinking (allow that to invent, create and solve) I believe it could end requirements for a current medium of exchange, which in turn would offer a big first step into some sort of utopia.

 

I honestly think no, and there never will be.

 

Why?

I personally think that as long as there are conflicts of interests, religion, and views there will never be true peace.

Opposing parties tend to do what they can to get an upper hand on their rivals. A vicious cycle, if you want to call it that.

 

Religion mostly. That and there’s always going to be people that want power.

 

Unfortunately it is impossible . The world is Run and controlled by Tri-lateral trading blocs. You only have to look back at a chap named Lord Alfred Milner who in the late 1800's early 1900's managed to get the poor African countries to mine Diamonds and precious materials for the west paying them absolutely nothing .

 

Not within the next couple of generations (though major improvement is likely?), but certainly it is possible in the long term. Why do you say its impossible?

We know that peace (a distinctly relative term, here) is possible and as is prosperity. We know worldwide proliferation of qualities is possible. So why not the conjunction?

It's impossible due to human nature, I think that we should take care of our own cultures and people rather than others, and people with my mindset are a reason why we will never have wold peace, frankly i'm fine without it, although I wish things were a bit less hectic.

Never, there will always be someone somewhere pissed off by something and willing to fight about it.

 

Oh, it surely is possible. It should only take an alien invasion of some sort and some time for the things to settle down

 

LMAO. That's like asking for all married couples to never get in a fight again.

 

Actually, that doesn't seem that unreasonable. I've actually never understood couples that get "in a fight". Are they not capable of having an adult conversation?

 

Hormones. Periods. Mid-life crisis. Kids & sleep loss. Work. Stress. Etc. -- It's kind of hard to have an adult conversation during all of these things

 

Too much competition for resources, people literally killing their home for convenience. In the event of a fallout, do not trust nobody, do not offer people anything and focus on yourself.

 

Possible, yes. Likely, I don't think so, at least not if things keep up the way they've been the past couple hundred years.

 

I've been in all of these situations (except kids, thank God), and I've never had a moment where I wasn't able to control myself.

IMO, it's not possible. There will always be people who want more land, more money, more power. Also, we have religion and culture, which have their own complications.

Men would have to loose a primal instinct which is competition before this could happen and competition is what keeps our society moving forward.

Imagine - a world of agnostics, with a single goal in mind. No illegal drugs, no war, no physical or mental pain - only peace and prosperity. Sounds unrealistic when we live in hierarchical world.
