[Guide] How to Set Up Xbox Live on Your Xbox 360! [Pictures]

Hello, and hopefully after reading this thread, you will be able to hook your 360 up to Xbox Live, and get playing online.

Now, this guide is what I highly suggest you do. This is not necessarily the way you might want to go about it. I

Instead of buying a router, you can hook up the Ethernet cord directly into the back of your modem, but it is not suggested if you are going to have a computer and Xbox Live connected at the same time.

Usually modems don't have enough open ports to hook up both your computer's internet and your Xbox's internet.

Well, let's get to the guide then:

Hard-Wiring:

Step 1:

You must have a router. If you don't have a router, you will not be able to hard-wire your Xbox Live. If you only have a modem, there isn't enough ports in the back of the modem to be able to get your internet on your computer, and on your Xbox at the same time.

Here is what a typical router looks like(Linksys):



That is an absolute must. If you don't have a router, I suggest you purchase one, I think they are around 60$ USD from a Staples near you.

Step 2:

Now, you must find out how far away your Xbox 360 will be from your Router, which should be directly hooked up to your Modem. Your router will come with a disc that will allow you to configure your Router into your computer.

Once you know how far away it will be, you will need to purchase some Ethernet cable. When I did my Xbox Live, I needed 100 ft. of this stuff, and the ends of the cable look like this:



Step 3:

Once you have your cord, you can now plug it into the back of your Xbox, and the back of your Router. Should you look at the ports of the router, you can see there will be 4 different slots to plug this cord into.



Here you can see where the Ethernet cable should go, promptly plug it in.

Step 4:

Go to your local GameStop, or other Gaming Store, and purchase either, the 1 month Gold Membership, 3 Month, or 12 Month.

Step 5:

Voila! You should now have successfully hooked up your Xbox Live, by hard-wire. Congratulations.

Wireless:

Step 1:

The only thing that you need for wireless connection, is to buy the Xbox Wireless Adapter:



All you have to do is plug in the tiny cord into the USB port on the back of the Xbox 360, and lock it into place.

The only problem with this is, it can get pretty pricey. The cost of that little adapter is $99.99.

Thanks, heads up though the Xbox wireless adapter has bad reception if your computer is a few rooms away, Linksys is the best bet.
But Modem ensures 100% no lag, but while using a modem you can't use your internet.

Okay, you've told us what to buy.... Now how do we set it up? ^_^

 

Its a pain in the ass to have to buy that 100$ adapter. That is why i just did wired connection.. Its faster and cheaper.
