I've always thought why people do this.

Perhaps because we do that when we talk.

I just thought of another one: When we speak, sometimes your partner may not understand your point, so the hand gestures "push" the knowledge into him/her. On the phone, we are still talking, so the hand gestures come out from habit.

That is true, but see when someone is with you physically it's okay to use hand gestures. But on the phone, makes you look crazy.

idk just a thought... maybe the person giving directions doesnt have the way memorized so he imagines it in his head and uses hand movements to figure out the correct way...

That's what I'm thinking, but yet again, it's not like the person on the phone knows where your pointing. >.<

I'm pretty terrible at that. I'm even more terrible at pacing, I CAN'T sit still while talking on the phone.

Well I had ADD. That's not a problem. Just a minor inconvenience.

Still do. It's why I can't have another window open when playing a game I get distracted. :(

Oh sorry dude, didn't mean to be a dick. I'll put you in my siggy. I've always wondered if having ADD and talking on the phone could be hard. Seems like it.

No, it's ok. Just imagine having ADHD? It's like ADD with a constant sugar-rush. You can learn to control it. I just can't be bothered. :p

Humans were built to have ADD. If one was in the forest, then ADD can save one's life.

When i'm on the phone, I don't like anyone to be in same room as me, I walk out or say one sec then I pace up and down the room.

Natural reflex, when you're trying to help someone/ make a point you want to do it as well / as powerfully as possible. Telling someone to turn left and pointing left is more obvious that just telling them. Doing it on the phone is just a natural reflex to what you do in a face to face conversation.
Politicians do it a lot because they are trying to emphasize there bullshit points.

I guess moving your hands and all that also feels better than just being stiff and staying still also

I don't see how its immature it just comes naturally for some. Thankfully not for me. But when I see it it kind of annoys me I have no idea why it just does.
