    How old is the universe?
Scientists say it is approximately 13.7 billion years old but i dont believe that!
What was before the universe nothing?
Whats nothing is it just no color doesnt that mean its black so it is something?
Or are there like infinite big bangs so that doesnt make the universe 13.7 billion years old
Or maybe there are parallel Universes......

    The universe is forever infinite.

It has no beginning, and no end.

Nothing has no colour. Do not waste your braincells trying to grasp the concept of absolute-nothing. :D

There may be parallel universes. Unfortunately, the closest humans of this time have gotten to figuring out that mystery is what is inside a black hole. We cannot know, because we will be ripped to shreds trying to figure out.

I think the universe has always existed as well, because there can not be nothingness.

approx 13.7 billion would be from the big bang, but the universe had to still exist, and have always existed, because something connot truely come from nothing.

I believe arya summed things up pretty well.

Though, you must understand, our physical universe hardly encompasses all of existence, for existence to be truly infinite in nature there must certainly be parallel universes and higher dimensions as well.

Also, considering the dualistic nature of everything, it must also be that a state of absolute nothing exists as well. This is not something most people can grasp without actually experiencing it first (which is no easy feat). This is simply because it contradicts our very state of being, our entire world.

When you realize that all of these elements including the dimension of time are simply walls separating everything from one another, you can realize that everything is always happening and not happening simultaneously, we are in a constant state of existence and also in a constant state of non-existence that encompasses the entirety of infinity!

Not that m/any of you will understand this post hahaha.

I completely disagree. The universe have a start and it will have an end. The universe is getting wider everyday . This means that it was sometime very tiny. This is where Big Bang came from. And someday it will end . When? Nobody know !!.
    I have noticed something ..........
All topics here are really related on each other.
Like , If u believe in God ( first post ) u will believe that the universe has a start and end ( this post ) and u will believe in Hell/ Heaven ( another post )......etc

    *looks at some mercury*

sometimes it takes them awhile ^______^

but yea, definately a lot of thought put into how long the universe has been around but they cant possibly calculate it for that long of a period as they cannot track its growth accurately.

Our world is based on science and as science proves there is no such thing as nothing it is impossible for us to grasp the concept of nothingness. Therefore the universe must be infinite or there must be some other thing that came before. Some thing larger? Maybe for all we know, our universe could just the inside of an Atom in an even huger world?

Its billions of years old, people have evolved over time from idiotic minds to suffisticated minds, things grow and things die, but the universe has been around for billions of years.

    You're retarded.

On a more related note, we can't, and never will be able to measure how old the universe is. Sure, you can look to the bible for an explanation, but not only has the bible obviously been tampered with, it is questionable whether it is even true.

You sounded pretty confident when you said "It's been around for billions of year"

Thats why I called you an idiot, because you don't know.

your the retard. The age of the big bang is measured from time since the big bang, and an estimate has been worked mathmatically, not from the bible.

"NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) project estimates the age of the universe to be:

    (13.73 ± 0.12) × 109 years.
That is, the universe is about 13.73 billion years old,[1] with an uncertainty of 120 million years. However, this age is based on the assumption that the project's underlying model is correct; other methods of estimating the age of the universe could give different ages. Assuming an extra background of relativistic particles, for example, can enlarge the error bars of the WMAP constraint by one order of magnitude.[7]

This measurement is made by using the location of the first acoustic peak in the microwave background power spectrum to determine the size of the decoupling surface (size of universe at the time of recombination). The light travel time to this surface (depending on the geometry used) yields a reliable age for the universe. Assuming the validity of the models used to determine this age, the residual accuracy yields a margin of error near one percent.[8]

This is the value currently most quoted by astronomers."

so in no way was his claim of the universe being billions of years old out of line.

What porman said is right. These are the most recent figures for the age of the universe. Of course, we measure the age of the universe from the Big Bang - The collection of energy and particles that comprised the Big Bang could have been around for eons, but there is no way telling. The parallel universes idea comes mostly from this idea of an infinite universe, as if the universe is infinitly big, there are infinite possibilities. Therefore, if something doesn't happen, it must happen somewhere as long as it is possible. The other alternate universe idea comes from supersymetrical theory, the idea that that there could potentially be millions of other 'universes' layed into ours, but unable to interact with each other. This theory needs alot more explaining than that, and is quite complicated if you don't know much about physics. Hope that clears up some things, but it probably didn't.

The big bang is a theory, not fact. So you're stating something you claim to be fact, yet you're using a theory as a starting point. That automatically makes you wrong.

Actually, The Big Bang is only one theory, we could set here and discuss alot of theories on how old the earth is but tbh we wont know, never, we cant go to the day it was created and we wont be alive when or if it is destroyed. So scientist can come up with the "logical" thing but to contrast the logical thing is the "religious" thing so basically.. just pick a side and agree with them :/
