Forums. They're all fun. Sythe, RSForums, GameSpot Forums, etc., etc. They all have sorts of ranks, though. And to rise up in those ranks, you need to post in people's threads. Seems simple, and the guide sounds pointless, doesn't it? Well read on, and I can prove you wrong.

Posting
If you want to be trusted and respected in any forum on the internet, you'll need, first of all, a good amount of posts. THIS DOES NOT MEAN SPAM OR FLAME. That will most likely get you banned. Bad idea. What you need to do is read the thread, and make sure you read everyone else's posts in the thread as well. There can be key info in their posts, and scrolling right past them to hurry up and click "Post Reply" for getting 1 post closer to Forum Addict could cost you.


Your rep
Reputation also plays a key role in becoming a respected part of any forum. Dont just post little mini, horridly written, misspelled posts in every single thread you see. That will get you a bad rep, therefore leading you to be a hated part of any thread. Another bad idea.

Guides/Reviews
Another tip for all the newbies out there, who are desperately seeking a good part in the forum they call home, is to write reviews and guides. A game forum, review a game you liked, and post a guide to a game you can beat. There you go. Now people can count on you for information and help. Which means more posts/conversations, which will ultimately lead to becoming well-known and liked. :]


Spelling/Grammar
Finally... SPELLING AND GRAMMAR! A huge chunk, and the heart of your posts! Ok more like liver and gullbladder, but you get the point. Noone wants to talk to someone they can't understand. Make sure you use spellcheck, use punctuation and capitalize stuff. It makes really nice to look at, and really helps when you're typing alot of stuff.

I liked the spelling and grammar part, but on RuneScape cheating websites Post count means nothing. Its all about vouches.

A scammer can Post all that he wants, but he can't get vouches.
Definitely better than your last guide, and at least you are showing improvement.

Hrm...Except Sythe doesn't allow rep, so that part is out. It's an alright guide, but I'd kind of expect this to come from someone who has been on this forum a little longer.

 

Vouching can mean just as little as post count. Its all about attitude.
I suggest you follow this tip:
Don't post about things you are misinformed on.

Another thing: Scammers can get vouches, they start with little trades, not scamming, then they get a big trade and they become scammers.
So they were destined to be scammers all along.

 

I think it's an alright guide, but as clank said it's all about attitude. If your too pushy with high post count and vouches, it appears quite obvious your going to scam - especially if you keep mentioning you have them.

But if your a leacher and agree with people's points and sit back and let the trade take place without suggesting anything irradical, or dening a middleman - you come across a lot more trusted.

A scammer can get vouches. 'free tut islands'. Etc. Crap that means nothing. Neither posts, nor vouches mean anything. You need good judgment.

Good guide, should help a lot of people and hopefully make forums more understandable when it comes to reading posts.

However I disagree with the vouches, they can mean a lot, and not everyone who does free stuff is definately going to scam.
What do those of us who are awful at games do for reputation? We can't exactly post a guide we ripped from the net, can we?
