G2A Not taking Paypal anymore.

This is an information thread about the new upcoming G2A update which goes into effect on the 1st of November 2018.

G2A will no longer take Paypal payments via their own Paypal account anymore. Instead they will serve as a gateway and setup company that helps smooth transactions via Paypal. This will require every business to link their official Paypal account to G2A. They will scan the Paypal account prior to acceptance to see if it's a business Paypal account related to the actual business. Furthermore there will be a full KYC scan of the entire website before any new admissions are made.

I can see this forming a lot of problems for businesses who are firmly relying on G2A to accept their Paypal payments. Not only that but i know a lot of businesses who got their Paypal account locked or frozen (especially in the USA or Canada).

Curious to see how this will play out in the long run and which further updates G2A will make. I can see them tackling creditcard fraud hard someway in the nearby future.

EDIT : One of my (now) good friends who works at G2A has told me that they will indeed combat creditcard fraud in the first half of the year 2019. They will only allow businesses to accept creditcard payments who are in a specific market range. The market ranges allowed to take creditcard payments will be game keys, codes, and so forth. They will disallow all form of creditcard payments for sites who sell virtual game items as it's way harder to track if product has actually been delivered or not.

EDIT 2 : As of the 1st of November, actual payouts via Paypal will also not be possible anymore. G2A Pay will only offer payouts via Bitcoin, Skrill en SEPA Bank.

 

It's no secret that anybody or any company dealing with accepting money through Paypal can be really bad news. Unfortunately things need to happen, even if that means completely removing the payment option. Credit Card payments and Paypal payments can be some of the worst types of payments to deal with when you're dealing with dishonest people, but is also the most convenient to deal with if you're dealing with legit people. Oh how the world works.

Dw, accepting Direct Paypal is ok, ive had over 50 chargebacks this month.

Can someone elaborate 'direct' paypal?
I wouldn't consider Paypal to Paypal any more safer than G2A, lol.
When I used to market I have been charged back on the majority of my Paypal transactions.

G2A stating what you claimed in OP - I have evidence of G2A's business manager telling me the exact opposite but I'm not going to post it until I see some evidence of your claims. I'm happy to if you do.

 

Well you could just look at your emails. Every merchant gets update emails.
Or you can look on their terms of services updated page.
Or you could just wait till november and be surprised.

I don't get what u mean with "claims the exact opposite" though. They are gonna give u cookies everytime u receive a Paypal payment via their service or? Would really like to see your version of what your G2A representative says as i'm sure no G2A employee is gonna claim the opposite of their own official updates, unless this is again some made up story or "claim" you tend to make every so often.

Actually I was told there would be an alternate way to take PP by my account manager.

He may of meant this though - I was told (as I said) the opposite of them stopping accepting Paypal however I can see how he might of meant this new thing their doing. I've asked him about it.

 

Their new integration is as stated in my original received email. You need to provide your own Paypal and they do the integration. I don't know what use this will be to anyone. Putting Paypal on your site is done in a couple of minutes.

this has been an issue for awhile. I'm interested to see where most sites will seek an alternative.

 

The only alternative is to accept Paypal directly. If that's not an option then you're literally out of options. Well you could see how well u fare without Paypal but i can reckon ur revenue will take a drastic hit. Creditcards you can still accept via other routes like stripe. Although i still feel that customers who see creditcard payments are processed through Paypal will trust the website faster than other payment gateways. There's not a soul on the planet who hasn't heard of Paypal. G2A was one of it's kind but (something i stated once they announced their whole chargeback protection system) wasn't something to last forever.

 

Stripe doesn't support third party digital goods. It's quite a dire situation. The worst part of it all is that some websites have access to Paypal, while others have had their Paypal shut down for being "high risk". It's very anti-competitive for a payment processor to shut down certain accounts while leaving others open for operating the exact same business model.

If Paypal treated all digital goods websites equally, then everyone would be on a level playing field. By selectively enforcing their own rules, which are not clearly defined or explained, they are deciding who wins and loses in our industry. Any website which continues to have access to Paypal after this change to G2APay will have a massive advantage.

 

All high volume websites from the US and Canada have been stripped from their Paypal account so it seems, while other sites located in Europe are still doing fine. This could however change in the nearby future.

The whole G2A situation had to come to a close eventually anyways. I can't see them having a financial gain from dealing with all the chargebacks and covering each and every loss. Let alone some sites taking major advantage and letting fraudsters run free, not even doing basic checkups, because why would they? G2A will cover anything anyways. The G2A protection concept was too good to be true and had to end sometime.

With the closing down of G2A their Paypal ability, perhaps another door will open. I think Ron (MMORPG) still has his Paypal service up and running, ofcourse this comes with a somewhat higher fee as well.

 

G2A stopped covering chargebacks this summer. They are now forwarded to the merchant. It's quite clear that they are closing PayPal support because their business model is seen as high risk. It was pretty obvious it would happen. Accepting payments on behalf of third parties is quite clearly against PayPal ToS.
