So... Opening CSGO Cases Has Terrible ROI

I guess not a big surprise to anybody, but some guy actually wrote a research paper for his Masters degree which collected a bunch of data from each case opening to compare the ROI's on each case. The sample sizes were about 2000+ cases each type. Perhaps not enough to give a perfectly accurate ROI, but I think it's pretty close.

Long story short, average case opening will return you ~35% of the cost of case + key to open it. Best case to open is CSGO Weapon Case II, worst case is Gamma. More details here: R2Pleasent Gold | Why Opening CSGO Cases is a Terrible Investment

As for Case opening sites, all I can say is lol. Those guys are probably giving out less than Steam by a wide margin.

 

Of Course they are, and the Gimmick is they bunch together a bunch of nice stuff in 1 case so it makes it seem to average user its better to open there cases lol

I always suspected the ROI for case openings would be low, based off of personal experiences, but the data collected through the study is shocking nonetheless. And to think that the case I opened the most (Chroma 2) had an ROI of only a measly 25%. I can tell you one thing, I'll NEVER again open a case.

 

Always thought this was the case anyways, but nice to have some data to back it up.

I just buy the skins and gamble them lmao, screw opening cases on sites or csgo. such low odds.

 

Its just that you always hear the successtories from friends who opened a sick knife or something. But nobody tells you about the money they spent

 

Opened round 100 cases got one red in my life, no knife no nothing.

I've opened $1,685.95 worth of cases on only my main account (through steam itself) so this is the amount of keys I have purchased. And I have had 0 knives or "super-rares" at all, I wouldn't recommend opening cases it's a sham. But on the flip-side. My friend opened 50 cases and got a Ruby M9, so I guess it's how lucky you are and I'm unlucky haha!

Totally agree! After I got 1 classified skin from 16 cases, I had decided that it is better to buy skins you like on websites and don't trade my money for nothing. Anyways, that's a great lesson that taught me to never gamble.
