Why so many scammers?

I think it's insane how many scammers are in-game on RS, on Sythe.org, other communities, etc.
I don't know why people choose to scam so often, it's like these days you're way more likely to run into
a fake friend who wants to scam you than actually make a real friend. In my opinion, the people who
scam are more likely to be the unhappier more insecure type, who don't have enough morals or what
they want in real life to be happy and make friends and be a respectable sociable person.

I can't think of any other reasons why people would scam so much other than being greedy, and upset
and using scamming as a way of getting back at the people.

What are your opinions?

 

Scammers exist in every game even irl you find snakes but ofc it occurs more on the internet since you don't see their ugly face(s)

 

Yeah it's just so annoying, I'm curious as to why it is so toxic irl, in-game, online market, anywhere.

It's insane to me.

 

Lack of real world consequence, mostly.

 

it is a shame. you should take every precaution possible when doing any kind of deal/trade, if the other participant is not willing to oblige reasonable precautions then do not trade with them, even if you get a cheaper deal, or a faster service or any reason. do not be coerced into forfeiting your safeguards.

 

A lot of it is the anonymity of being behind the computer. 99.99% of them wouldn't think to do it if it was face to face.

 

It makes trusting other people extremely difficult but those are the risks you take when you get involved with online activities and markets. There will always be scammers, just gutta be smart and prevent yourself from getting scammed.

People want easy money and scamming is the way it sucks but thats how it is :/

 

RS just has a very shitty community I guess lol. They make it really hard to make actual friends online. Also I guess runescape is a game where equipment is VERY important so they usually dont think twice about the consequences.

 

Greed, I've only been on Sythe for a month but how many scam reports I have seen is a joke, This is no fault of Sythe or anything like that, It's just people have no regard to other people's money and stuff. It's pathetic and as a community, we should all come up with ways to try put an end to a lot of scams. Reading them really makes me sorry for the victim who loses his hard earnt cash because of someone who thinks they can do what they want!

 

Rs has such a high scam rate because the gold has a monetary value. Argentina and Venezuela have people who make a living off of this game.
It's not necessarily anonymity as other have said, its the value of the gold. Look at wow for example, people are anonymous there but there isn't near as much scamming due to the gold being shit value wise

40% dumb people who falls for it

Not talking about being scammed by big donators ofcourse

 

don't call people dumb for fallen for a scam, Not nice dude. A lot of people put trust into someone to do them a job or whatever and they betray there trust and friendship.

 

I am about buying things for to cheap. Ofcourse they get ripped off then. Its all bout using brains

 

Idk some people like putting faith into others, however end up getting betrayed. Also alot of the time theres not really any set price for things other than plain gold, so whether its cheap or not, they might not even know.

 

Everywhere where trust is involved and scammers dont have anything to lose the scamming exists. Its not going to change so better pay more attention to your trade partner's proven trustworthiness (vouches, amount and strength of active services / shops ran by him)
