The only way they have an effect on everyone is when they start blowing people up, coursing wars etc...

other then these nuts i dont see religion having much effect on todays society since not many people care, people dont follow gods word, people just "believe" yet do nothing.

    The Existence of God

In to the three post following my last one:

Religion affects you in many ways. Wars are being waged funded by your tax money partly because of religion, politics are affected by religious politicians and religious laws, religious organizations get funding from the state (at least where I'm from) again from your tax money. To name three examples.

They are still using money that could go to better schools, roads, health care etc. Therefore you are affected.

Why do you 'believe' in him?

    Why would you?

    Etc.

You have to say more than i guess i believe in him.

I did not say that. Anyway, I said that the religious people's beliefs don't effect me. You just went off subject and talked about the people's ACTIONS. You are the one who has missed the "piont".

    The Existence of God

hell yea i do and you know what i believe that a lot of people dont believe in a religion due to being lazy and wanting to live a destructive life style (some not all). in my honest opinion the only purpose of a nonbeliever's life is to satisfy their personal pleasures and desires. in my mind if you dont believe in something you are being selfish to the life you've been giving. forget science for once, god's existance can sound unbelievable but no scientist can explain why the human race exists so why are you following them if they can't explain existance either.
Even a priest wont be able to explain fully why we are here but u best believe in something or your life has no purpose except to fill your greedy desires.
It's like this- i cannot prove gods existance but praying has helped me in the past and ya know what? thats good enough for me. dont believe in god because ur scared of hell, dont believe in god because you are being told to, believe in him for your own reasons and to keep a purpose to your life.

well deeeerrrrr, of coarse there believe alone has no effect on you. if everyone just believed but didnt waste our tax money on driving the pope, didnt blow of buildings, didnt start wars, then its obvious it will not effect you.

    The Existence of God

It is the only planet to sustain life as we know it but there are certain types of life forms that do survive in extreme condition like sea vents which were impossible for anyone to think of until we found them...

    The Existence of God

None of the atheists I know live a destructive life-style.

Satisfy personal pleasures and desires? How childish! Though I do live to further myself, my pleasures are few, and I ignore my desires to keep on task.

Besides, since when has not believing in an invisible man in the sky made someone selfish? It sounds rather like a fairy tale to me. This also leads to my opinion of the concept of the afterlife. If there is a god, I _hate_ him with a passion. If the afterlife exists, regardless of going to heaven or hell, it means I am doomed to an eternity. An eternity is far too much for human capacity, and hence anyone would go insane, be it a perfect world or not so. Saying "the life you've been given" makes me angry because of this.

There are more feasible theories than the concept of "God did it." Evolution does indeed have factual evidence to support it.

Again, my own and only real desire is to further myself. If that makes me selfish, do you think I care? Personally I feel it is more fulfilling than receiving nothing by contributing to a society and receiving nothing in return.

How has praying helped you? I've had my fair share of luck too, kiddo. If luck is good enough for you, try it at a casino.

Why would believing in an invisible man in the sky bring purpose to your life?

    The Existence of God

This is a debating topic not a abusing thread. I myself believe in a god as there must be some sort of life after death. I know there isnt much evidence, but its just what I believe it and don't ask me why its my choice. I will back up my answers if use do accuse me of lieing.

    The Existence of God

In my opinion, there is no god... I believe some very intelligent men got together and made this whole "god" thing up... I mean think about it... what would happen if there was no "god" to look up too? The world would be chaotic! Now, some of you might be asking " well what about the bible? where did that come from...?" ... My question to you... Don't the muslims have a book also? called the Qua'ran or something? I think people wrote these books to help people beleive that there is a god.

Sure some people have seen "miracles" ... But humans normally use only like 15% of their brain area... (not sure of the exact statistics)... so maybe there is some "magical" property about humans? (This is starting to go off track now)...

I do not beleive in god, im more science... just the whole "spirit, heaven, hell" thing just sounds like a dream someone had...

    The Existence of God

Well I personally still pray and all, but to be honest there is no evidence of the existence of hell, heaven nor god. I personally think Science > Religion because at least it is backed up by evidence. I hate it when people are extremely high-believing of a religion because it ends up in lots of fights, etc. Have you noticed religion has brought more destruction than peace? Oh, and just to help you a little to understand my point, think of Egyptians and how they believed in Ra, the sun god, and other gods. We laugh at them now, and probably in the future people will laugh at us for believing god.
