    Ok my question is simple.

When ever someone says that they hate rap, your replies are ALWAYS as follows. "thats because you listen to the mainstream shit you gotta listen to the underground shit" or something along those lines.

If that's the case why is it every single rap thread here is about mainstream rap? you always compare people to other mainstream rappers. So my question to you all is why are you all hypocrites? From what I see not one of you listens to this so called "underground rap"

VERY VERY true, there is only like one kid on this forum that listens to underground like that kid who posted the Will Smith stuff. Yeah, I see all threads are about Soulja person and all that gay stuff.

and btw I don't listen to rap, just saying that so I don't look bad.

Truthfully the Beasties aren't considered rap.

Oh and by the way, rap is not all that bad, it just depends on what stuff you listen to. Not talking about like what you said in first post, like being a hypocrit. But like, I think Bone Thugs and Harmony are amazing, and I also listen to rock. Truthfully, I don't see why someone couldn't listen to both rap and rock without having derogatory remarks made against them.

Not all main stream Rap is bad, they're a few who actually put thought into their lyrics. It's the ones like 50 Cent who rap about girls, cars, and money, that make people dislike rap.

Well, not to get too off topic here but the main people complain about "artists" is that they enjoy there own type of music, and anything they hear other than that is "below them" I try to keep a open mind but if you have seen my posts even I am like this. But I believe I have a fairly good reasoning.

When I listen to music I don't just stereotype. I go by what I know.

The first thing I look for is.
A instrumentals: are the instruments that are being played, sound like they are being played by someone who is playing with some soul or just because there playing.

next quality, are they someone who sounds like they just picked up a instrument or have played for some time and sound good.

next if I dislike that I listen to the lyrics. and I see if there meaningful or just empty garbage.

I usually look for songs that have 2 of these, if not the one thing they have if any has to be quite good, otherwise I will dislike them.

Which comes to my reasoning for why I dislike the majority of rap, and emo music.

First lets go with rap: The reason I hate rap, is because there practically the same beats and at least 98% of the music is just them talking about how hard they think they are.

Next emo music: I have yet to hear an actual emo band that has any instrumental talent, and I cannot stand whiny people. Now emotional (which technically by what we call emo music is not the same thing) Is good. such as bands like.

    Creed
    3 doors down
    hurt
    Billy Joel
    Eric Clapton
etc. they are very talented just on lyrics alone, not to mention that they all have some great sounding music instrumentally.

Now you might say "well whats the excuse for you to liking death metal etc."

Well simply there guitars are in general quite amazing, and if you actually take the time to give them a chance they have some quite meaningful lyrics.

An last but not least you got your little immature kiddies who simply go with the crowd because it's the "popular" thing to do.

Now don't get me wrong I don't hate rap 100% I just only like a very very small amount of songs and even fewer artists.

That was not the point I was getting at. I was simply saying Everyone tells anyone who listens to rock or metal and says they dislike rap they say it's because they listen to mainstream rap and they need to start listening to underground rap. Which is why I made this post, because there ignorance sickens me.

I have a question to those of you who like rap

When did I ever say that I was a rap hater, or for that matter the people who like rap refer us to underground metal? that is quite simply redundant. I said that When ever someone says that they dislike rap especially here. They ALWAYS every single time Will say "that's because you haven't heard the underground RAP" But then it turns around. all they are talking about is people like 50 cent, soulja boy, the game, lil wayne, eminem etc. all these people who are just about as mainstream as they come. If you all listen to underground rap then where is it? because you surely aren't talking about it , other than the few foolish kids who try to rap about runescape of all things.

As for Jethro and the beastie boys, that is not the case, yes I know who both are I am not talking about classifying genres.

AS for the comment about metal heads classifying rap, it is mainly because

    A. they don't consider it music as they don't make there own music they do it all digitally.
    B. as I already said they want to be with whats "cool"
    C. They are like me and actually listen to the lyrics etc. and can tell when lyrics are bull shit, or the same thing over and over, because they have a brain.

as for your music tastes, I am essentially the same way I listen to practically anything and everything that sounds good. such as.

All shall perish , as blood runs black, 38 special, Boston, 32 leaves, thornley, reel ********, goldfinger, the smash-up, the exies, queensryche, poisonblack, pillar, grade 8, rancid, pennywise, incubus, sublime, atmosphere, fort minor, bone thugs and harmony, coolio (mainly because of gangsta's paradise) , tupac Not to mention a good 90% or so of what you put there.

Not one of you rap fans can give me a answer?

I have a question to those of you who like rap

About 90% of the rap i listen to it considered underground. i think it is different people who create the mainstream topics and the people who defend rap with underground, however I'm not entirely sure.
personally what turns me off of a rap song is voice sounds annoying, beats are over too digital, and lyrics repeat thousands of times. People rapping about wealth, girls, and skills don't bother me because I can think of many underground artists that rap about those same topics.
To me what makes a good some is flow and word play. Any moron can rhyme to things but where the art is using metaphors to express the message they're trying to get across.

For Example here is a verse from one of my favorite songs reality check by binary star

This is how I represent I rock the mic 110 percent
It's intimate, I keeps the party moving like a imigrant
Binary Star, superstar its no coincidence
Every verse is intricate, this ain't a circus in a tent
We don't get down like them clowns and the kids
I'm use to being indegent, who said its all about the Benjamin's?
I wanna fortune, I wanna make music and hit the lottery
Fortunately my music is never watery
That's how its gotta be, as far as I can see
Maybe you should grab a telescope to see my veiw its like astronomy
    It aint all about economy
so the fact that these wack emcees is making G's don't bother me
Honestly, my number one policy is quality
never sell my soul is my philosophy
High velocity, lyrics like Nastradamus make a prophecy
I told you cats a long time a go it ain't no stoppin' me
I bomb your set that's not a threat its a promise
Got everybody ridin' on my wagon like the Amish
But still I never claim to be a big rap star
So no matter who you are its still Allah who act God
Better believe this, most rappers can't achieve this
I'm bad to the bone but x-rays can't even see this
See I'm strategic I letcha money talk bullsh*t walk
While I keep it rollin' like parapalegics
Whoever's on the microphone let it be known
You in danger, I got next(necks) like the Boston Strangler
You ain't never heard an emcee speak like this
And Rodney King ain't never felt a beat like this

as you can see they utilize metaphors, slant rhyme, and punchlines to relate a bunch of random things to how good they are and that they dont care about fame.

to answer your question im not really sure, but I for one do not practice this hypocrisy. I cannot stand rap that is played on the radio.

Well. I have actually heard this song before. Not sure where. but I will give you it is good. although not my type of lyrics. they did a good job with it for the most part. I have not really seen you around too much at all on the forums so I can't go against what you said.

I am still waiting for someone to come here talking about the "underground" music that has only really posted mainstream music. But apparently they realize they can't combat against this topic so they are keeping to themselves.

Haha Hypocritical idk about that People give there insight on if they like rap or rock better someone says they like Rock better they dont need to justify but when some one says they like Rap they have to explain why they like soulja boy and his 20 lyrics
Once again singling one person out lol.I mean like the band hawthorne height they talk about cutting there wrist and junk like that and thats not really anything to joke about but people still like it.But his new song "she got a donk" is very catchy and will give you something to get "Crunk" too.

I have a question to those of you who like rap

You are not understanding I am not asking them to justify why they like rap, I am asking why they say to people who say they don't like rap or a specific rap artist they say because it's mainstream garbage and tell them to listen to underground music. Yet in my year and some odd months being here have yet to see a rap artist that is underground that people here are talking about.

Yes Ok that is ONE "rap artist" although I don't care for him I will atleast say for the most part he is not like the mainstream bs. but 1 or 2 artists can't justify rap being good underground.

haven't heard of crooked i, Have known of Jedi mind tricks for some time now, little brother never heard of, mos def have known since before the chepelle show was even thought of. mf doom have heard and dislike , the others I don't know either, so you may actually know some underground bands or maybe I am just not into the rap scene enough to know of them.

But what I was mainly asking was as a whole why do most people on this site do this, on my whole time I have only seen 2-3 people who have talked about any "rap artist" remotely underground, and even a few that you said such as immortal, Jedi, mf doom , mos def etc. I have even heard of an I don't even listen to rap or try to find it I simply come across it by accident.
