The Existence of God

Cant say i do since bad things are happening to good people.

 

I was raised as a Christian.
But around 3-4 years ago, I started having doubts about my religion.
I started thinking of how the bible stories could have been done scientifically.
Or maybe Jesus existed, but was extremely smart at manipulating minds into making them believe it's actually happening. It's just a theory anyway.

So I became atheist. I don't know why, but I can't confront my parents to tell them. They are extremely faithful to God. They go to bible studies and communities that worship God.

I also believe that science will PROVE that God isn't real. Maybe not in 10 years maybe not 100 years, but science will, eventually.

 

My advice: Tell them.

You cannot prove the nonexistence of a being.

 

Well, proof that the miracles Jesus did in the bible is fake.

Shredder, are your parents Christian? If they are, how did they react when you told them?

 

They are Christian, yes. When I told them, they were disappointed, but after an hour-long argument, they were unable to justify their own beliefs for me.

Agnosticism, I'm on the fence.

 

I know, that's how it works in many areas. But to me it makes it so watered out and casual that it just looks like an attempt to shape the religion after what people like rather than the original teachings.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for watering out and slowly killing religion. It's just the humongous gap between the original Christian beliefs and traditions as opposed to the modern practice that annoys me. Modern protestant Christianity is nothing like how the original teachings say it should be.

Didn't get it. But I think the only difference between Muslims and Christians are Christians believe Jesus is the son of god and Muslims believes that God has no sons . Jesus , Mohammed ......etc are all prophets.

I am a muslim, I belive there is a god, thats how I was braught up. The existence of God still remains only religiously, in the after life there is a life. Lets just wait and see I suppose. I can't debate about it because its who *believes* and who does not. So yes I don't think you can debate on this subject. I do believe in a God though.

 

If you cannot provide empirical evidence or a rational argument, do not post in SFA. In a debate, you NEED evidence and rational arguments, if you don't have them then you are NOT worthy of debating. (I may sound like a backseat mod here, but whatever.)

And as so, I am still waiting for proof. It is foolish to believe in something without evidence, and so far there has been nothing solid. I cannot disprove your religion of course, so it is up to the believers to prove it.

 

I've argued with Shredder so much and there's just no phasing him. He's narrow minded in this sense.

 

Enough with the "I agree with Shredder" posts! This is not relevant to the discussion. Go to off topic and make a new topic of it or something. I agree with him too, but I don't feel the need to spam up the topic about it.


Just realized after posting you actually disagree with him, as opposed to agreeing. Still, I suggest you do the same.

 

Then there is no point of this thread. You can prove that most, if not all science is fact. Why do people still argue over this topic?
It goes nowhere; atheists want to know how monotheistics can prove that there is a God, and on the other hand, they tell atheists things from the bible, etc.

If you say "if you don't have them then you are NOT worthy of debating.", then the thread should be filled with posts from atheists, and possibly other people. The thread would not have any posts from monotheistics .

 

Unfortunately there is no ultimate algorithm which sorts out which posts have credible evidence and which posts don't. I can agree that there is not much point to this thread, however the point of a debate is to change the way people think (in most cases).

Therefore, it may be pointless to argue over something trivial like this, but it is interesting and sometimes even a source of amusement.

The discussion is still going because we don't agree. That won't change, but I still find it interesting to discuss it.

Trivial?? This is one of the least trivial matters there are to discuss. Religion, especially organized religion, has an enormous impact on our world both locally and as a whole. This can be both positive and negative, although in our modern society I find it more negative. This issue is in no way trivial.

 

"Is god real?" - Trivial. There is no scientific evidence of a god, therefore god cannot be proved, making god NOT real.

Trivial - of very little importance or value; insignificant.
commonplace; ordinary.

God = of little value because it is not real.

 

Narrow minded? Or does he just refuse to believe in something that is quite ludicrous, and cannot be proven?
