How to take care of your Xbox 360

Ok first of all I know alot of people who has an Xbox 360 and get the Red Ring Of Death (RROD). There are many ways to take care of your 360 and hopefully keeping it for a long time. This is all from experience as I have had a 360 for as long as it has come out.

    Basic Console Care

    1. A really helpful tip is to keep the Xbox in a clear and open space. Having anything behind your 360 fan will clog it and reduce cooling. I made a mistake of putting a plastic tv stand behind my 360 once, the 360 melted the plastic in 8 hours of straight play :p

    2. I should think that putting your 360 in a Horizontal stance or laying it down will prove better than standing it up. Laying It down will reduce the chances of it falling and damaging the console and disc. The fans that take in air are in the back, putting it down or standing it up doesn't really make a difference but laying it down will reduce the chances of damaging it internally and having external damage.

    3. Never buy one of those Coolant fans that you hook up to the 360. Although these are advertised to work, I have found from experience that it will just clog the fans and coolant system and is overall a real waste of money.

    4. Try to not move your console while a game is running or in the disc holder. This can damage both your console and your game, it is recommended to move you console while it is off and without a disc in it.

    5. If you find your console freezing often or running not as fast as you would like, you can buy a small desk fan. A small desk fan can provide some ventalation, it really is not needed but some people have trouble with the 360 after prolonged amount of play time.

    6. If your console does crash or get the RROD in a 12 month time period, you can send it to Microsoft and either get it repaired or receive a new console.

Tip: Some people mistake the RROD with a loose cable, the real Red Ring of Death is a 3 ring flashing red light. A four red ring, one ring, or two ring can be fixed as simply as just making sure your cables are correctly pluged in. You will generally get a 4 ring flashing lights if a cable is not completely plugged in, if thats the case just fasten the cable.
For all you people who dont think you can take care of your console, just buy an extended warranty. They can cost from 50-100 dollars but they will cover it from any natural or unnatural causes that harms the console.

    Inner Console Cleaning Tips

    1. Turn off all Power sources (why of course) and unplug all cables wires etc.

    2. Either buy an Xbox 360 care kit or buy a can of suppressed air and clean all exterior and interior parts of the console. You can use a wet paper towel or your care kit and wipe away dust, grime whatever on the exterior making sure to clean all fans, vents, cables, sockets etc. You can use a can of suppressed air (Can be purchase at any grocery store, hardware store) and spray the fans, sockets to clean any interior dust particles.

    3. If you want, you can replug in your console and open the disc tray, you can wipe this down or spray it with the supressed air, if you bought the Care Kit, you can use the supplied formula to clean all scracthes from your discs.

You should post pictures and add some color, then I think it would be good.

The whole standing it straight up isn't needed, It doesn't effect it in anyway as long as it isn't closed in. mine is always horizontal, and I have yet to have "the red ring of death" and Have had my 360 since the 360 first came out as well. although the rest of what you said I agree with, never the less good guide.

Yeah that is most definitely not good, I am assuming the cd that was in it now has a big circular gash in it? I did that to my "shadow run" game before I knew it did that lol so I rented the game got play guard on it and switched the games. Basically when it's gashed like that it's next to impossible to fix it.

Nice guide! Go a bit easier on the colors though, colors should be used to highlight topics but for plain text people prefer white.

I've lost a few game disk because my xbox fell while the game was playing.

Haha thanks for the tip, first real guide for me i guess. Anyways yah thats kind of a given not to play on carpet for extended periods of times. There are fans on the bottom of the 360 so you do the math.
