I think students should have some from of motivation. When you think about it thats what they are doing for a good few years, working in school. Schools are there to be pusing children, and educating them ofcourse, but if there 'bored' of the same all routine, they definitely need something to boost them along.

I think it's great, that a school is actually doing something to motivate each and everyone of it's student. Good on you NYC! :D

well the money would most likely help them succeed in their future goals. So i do support it. Although there is the other side of the arguement that i support as well, just like what sublime09 said if kids don't want to do well in school, then they can have a fucked up life with no future. In conclusion i believe both arguements.

Bribe a kid through school, and he will expect it all the time.

When THEY are the ones paying to go to college... i guarantee it will worsen their work ethic in college although it may increase it in high school.

Yes, I think they can at least be motivated to try harder for money. I know this from personal experience. In my family, my aunts/uncles/parents/grandparents etc pay me for my report card. Therefore if I do better, I get paid. Making me want to actually try in school.

Adults get paid for doing well in life, why not kids? Although it might teach a lesson of only working for a reward, it is such a great encouragement.

That is NOT a waste of tax dollars. A WASTE of tax dollars is spending 1 trillion dollars funding a war that copuld've been stop without thousands of tanks, and thousands of missiles that cost a few million each.

i agree i read studies that show that there was a decrease not a big one but a fair one in the amount of people dropping/failing high school over the past several years. If we start paying children, then it will benefit them as well as the economy in the long run. More people are working, more jobs, economy will do well.

They can be paid to motivate them. Edusaves are given to students as they had been an excellent student in school.

It might be a repayment for invading their indigenious lands, slaughtering them for being indifferent in appearance and culture, introducing there communities to recreational drugs which they now abuse because they were never educated on the effects of them.

If anything they deserve the apology (which they recieved from the Australian Government) and the extra money which they are being given to support their families.

Indirectly, you are rewarded for your efforts in most cases. It's in the students best interests to do well in school, not for the government to provide incentives.

I completely agree with the original author of the post. If children can't be bothered studying, or don't understand the positive effects they stand to gain, why pay them to do it? Besides, the system will most likely be abused; I bet there will be an increased number of people cheating.

Most definately. Encouragement is by far the best way too get people too excel. And giving them money for it would most definitely make them want too achieve better.

In my opinion the system is the equivalent of work except you are at school. I am a firm believer in meritocracy in our schooling systems and this is a wonderful way of encouraging mental growth amongst students. As well as this if done correctly it COULD help too teach students fiscal management.

Dude a scholarship is NOTHING like this. A scholarship gives you free schooling. Whereas in this situation you are GIVEN money which can be spent as you see fit. BIG difference.

Exactly like you said, its their choice to do well or not.

Don't bribe them. I mean, if EVERYONE does good, you can't depend on Mike Rowe to do all the dirty jobs for us :p
