    Need a new PC

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a new PC. I've only ever owned laptops, so please bear with me!

What I plan to do: Game/surf the web/have too many tabs open
Not overly demanding games, I want to be able to play games alike rust/pubg

I want to computer to be fast, as in: load up quickly, smoothly and quickly open up programs etc.

I would take the PC to be built at a shop, or i don't mind pre-built! I also don't mind second hand.

    Budget of $1000.
What am I looking out for? I'd like i7 just because:)

    Thanks!

I'll need some questions answered before anyone can come to a solid conclusion as to what parts you'll need etc.
    - What sort of gaming?
    - Type of game
    - Settings of game (low/med/ultra makes a lot of difference in needs)
    - 1080p/1440p/4k? What type of FPS are you looking to get? 30?60?144?
    - I know you said you'd want an i7, but justify why you want this. Is it because "i7 is better" or another reason? For example, an i5 of the 8th generation (latest) is faster (yes, really faster) than an i7 of the 7th generation.

Pcpartpicker is great for the USA (I presume, I don't live there lol :p), the easiest is if you have a friend or computer shop you know that can build a pc.

Some things you can start setting in your shopping cart now:
    - 400W gold+ certified power supply. Don't get more (unless you want 4k@60fps, then it's going to be a bit more complicated, especially with that low a budget) as you won't need more than like 200W with any system these days. Be quiet or bitfenix are solid brands.
    - Any 120gb/240gb (or more) SSD. Find out if you need the data storage, if you don't, don't bother with the next one, if you do, the next option applies:
    - Any 2tb drive. 1tb drives are priced weird and they are not viable. Pick a known brand, like Seagate.
    - Pick a case format (big, medium, small) of ATX, mITX or uATX. Probably wanna stick with an ATX case as they are the best for cooling. Pick one that looks good, but isn't the cheapest option as they come without casefans. A casefan or 2 can really help with the airflow and lifespan of the parts in your pc. The caseformat also applies to your Motherboard when you have chosen all the other parts, so this is a crucial step in both.
    - Take 2 sticks of DDR4 2666mhz 4gb or 8gb, so you'll have 8 or 16 gb. 8 being the bare minimum, 16 being good enough to last you for a couple years. Don't pick slower, don't pick faster ram. Really.
    -

That's it for now, all that's left is these parts:
    - Mobo
    - CPU
    - CPU heatsink
    - GPU
All of which depend on some of the choices you've yet to make, and on your budget. Usually the GPU is picked last as it'll make the most difference in gaming and your budget usually depends on the gpu.

    @Cas Thanks a lot.
I'd like to play games like RUST/PUBG on 60fps at 1080p on med graphics. Other games would include first person shooters like CSGO so i guess fps is a dealbreaker.
Yes, a bit shallow, but i'd rather have i7 even if an i5 was better.

Would buying a second hand PC then upgrading/swapping out parts be a viable option? I'm looking at this used PC, and could get it for a decent price:
    - INTEL I7 4790K 4.0GHz (overclocked to 4.6GHz)
    - 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM (Vengeance LP) - ASUS Z87-PLUS Mtherboard
    - AMD Graphic R9 270 Series GDDR5 2048MB graphics memory
    - Corsair Quiet filtered PC case with Startech HDD and AKASA Card readers
    - Large Be Quiet CPU fan
    - Crucial CT256MX100SSD1 240 GB SSD
    - Windows 10 Pro (Clean install)
    - Corsair AX760 PSU 80 Plus Platinum Fully Modular

No-No-No. Don't get a pc with stuff that's 4 generations older than we are now! Even if that pc was like 200 USD it's a ripoff for old as fuck hardware.
Build it new if you want bang for buck,
    http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-8400/2384vs3939
An i5 8400 beats a top-of-the-line CPU from years ago on stock speeds by over 20%. Why would you get old hardware, old standards, old bios, poor system support if you can get it new.

Fair enough, very eye opening, appreciate the support. I'll try and put together a build and may run it by you, cheers!

Even if you disagree, just post what you're looking to get. It's always good to ask for help when it comes to stuff like this.

    Wouldn't personally buy GTX 1060.
I would buy atleast GTX 1070 TI (Costs around 450-500€ and is 30-40% better in total than GTX 1060).

Memorys (RAM): 2x8GB, 2000-3000mhz, just because of 2 free spaces for upgrading more RAM.

Storage: 1x 120GB SSD for windows (w/e system you're using), 1x 250GB+ SSD for games/other softwares and HDD for extra space.

(Yea, I know posting 1 month too late, but anyways if you didn't buy anything yet.)

edit: just saw you already built it lmao. Hope you're enjoying your new computer :)

Wait for Ryzen 3 to come out if you have time or just get whatever processor, buy compatible mobo, buy some ddr4, buy some shitty psu or a good one idc 500w+, get a cool looking case, buy some gpu depending on how close you want the pixels on your monitor to be together when you game, buy an SSD with however much storage you need they're like 2 bucks now. Don't forget a wifi chip.

tbh I just built a computer for less than $200 that doesn't have a GPU and can 60fps a lot of games with 1080p and pretty much ultra any game in 900p (which still looks great). I've had expensive computers before and this one is built with quality parts, looks great, is very fast, and does exactly what I need it to. We're approaching an age where desktop computers don't have to be $500+ or commonly $1000+.

My suggestion: Just browse /r/buildapcsales for individual parts. Make sure they fit together and build your computer once you've collected the required lego pieces.

Also I have 8gb ram @ 3000mhz for sale brand new for $55 which is a hella good deal if you're in the market ;)
