    The Concept of Addiction

Hello Sythe Users I'm here to bring you yet another debate/discussion thread.
    --------------------------------------------------------
Now here is a common dictionary definition of 'addiction':

The state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.
    --------------------------------------------------------
Now that explanation can be seen in different ways. But here it is in simpler words:

A specific object/thought/thing that never leaves your mind. A constant, non-stop thing that gets in front of your normal life style.
    ---------------------------------------------------------

Here are some views on addiction by me:

    • It isn't really a problem, its all in your mind. Think hard enough about it you will cure it.

    • An addiction is something simple as something you like or dislike, the simple concept about it is that theirs something about that thing that keeps your mind on it. Find out what it is and conquer it.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

Time to discuss my minions bwahahha!

Addiction can be a problem, most people cannot just cure it in your mind. Thats why its called an addiction..

Hmm.. Well now... We're all addicted to RS so talking about this is not the best thing to talk.. Though I can throw away RS when I see a higher priority thing to do. But I think humans allways had some addiction to something. Not only computer.

I agree with most of what you said.

Although, as far as addictions are concerned, i believe you will NEVER drop an addiction unless its what you truly want.

Plenty of smokers realise they need to quit, but until they honestly want to, they never will. Happens allll the time ^_^

Any type of addiction is bad. There is no good addiction because addiction is a habit you can't get over. Anything you can't get over is bad.

Not all addictions are in between your ears, drugs like nicotine and opiates are physically addicting, your body "needs" the drug.

Ofcourse are many addictions like gaming, eating chocolate, watching TV are in your mind. They can be cured only if the 'addictee' (grammar?) really wants it, or gets forced to quit.

I thought it was "I can quit.. but i just have no reason to" that made an addiction.. like if someone thought they could but didn't want to so this meant they couldn't =s if that makes sense

gridsword, thats basically just a different way of saying what we just did ^_^

But your explanation was somewhat off. Theres definately always a reason to quit smoking: your health.

Many people realise this, and just dont care because to them its worth it, and they dont "want" to quit, although they realise they should.

And with smoking, your body will crave it, but your mind has to be what tells it no. ;)

Dude addiction is not only in your mind. For example, opiates (like poppy seeds) stop the neurons signaling pain from entering your spinal cord thus creating the feeling that you don't feel pain. Because of this the body does not produce the chemicals it would ordinarily produce to help you overcome the pain, and hen the drugs wears off you will hurt triple badly because now our body is in a weaker state against every day pains. This creates a physical addiction that will constantly be on your mind and cannot be over thought because it will be compared to the feeling of thirst, or hunger.

I read the book "A million little Pieces" its about adrug addict in rehab..And I totally agree. People say addiction is a disease, thats complete bullshit. Its something that you like so much but you don't have the balls to cut yourself off.

EDIT: its like pre-marridal sex. Our bodies crave it, its our instict, but people hold off because they know its 'wrong' in our society.

yeah ur points didn't really help, imagine quitting smoking, which i don't do but i can't even imagine how hard that is, i've been told its harder than quitting to eat chocolate which i can't stand not doing!i dont think erasing the problem or not thinking about it will do anything, you gotta do something greater i believe.
