My thoughts on Einstein and the speed of light.

Where you cannot see the mirror because you are going to fast and would take the human mind much longer to recognize it, I think that if you were going 1 mph slower you still couldn't see anything, thats why sun rays come out and make light etc. sun rays are actually to fast to actually see, if they were going 1 mph slower it isn't enough to make a difference.

 

First of all, stop the "we can't go that fast" arguments, this is about a theory, not whether or not we have the technology to do it.


I think you would see the mirror almost instantly, like you normally would.

Explanation: If you were going the speed of light, or 1mph slower, but holding a steady velocity, then it should be just like throwing a ball aboard a bus. Imagine this: you're sitting on a bus, that's standing still, and you throw a ball at the window on the other side. It bounces right back. Now imagine the bus is doing a steady 100 mph. You throw the ball again, and the exact same thing happens, because there is no acceleration or deceleration. And there is no outside force pushing the ball of course.

I can easily see this working the same way with the mirror. because you're holding a steady speed, it doesn't matter how fast you're going as long as the speed is the same and there is no outside force pushing the light of course.


And while we're at it, what is speed? Speed is measured as a mass's movement in relation to another.

Let's use the bus as an example again: The bus is doing 100 mph, and you are running 5 mph towards the front of the bus. You are now doing 5 mph in relation to the bus, but 105 mph in relation to the ground. And a megazillion mph in relation to the sun.

So if you go with the speed of light (say, away from earth), you should still be able to see your reflection in the mirror. This is because in relation to the mirror you are standing still, like when you bounce a ball at the window of the bus.

Ugh to educate those that don't understand the physics of the speed of light.

1. It requires an infinite amount of energy to reach the speed of light, which makes it technically impossible.

2. Your idea about not being able to see doesn't apply when traveling the speed of light. The speed of light is always constant, this has been proven even though it's counter-intuitive. If you hold the mirror out in front of you the light will take just as long as for the light to reach your eyes as it would if you were stationary.

I strongly recommend you read A Brief History of Time if you are interested in these sort of things.

 

sorry, you are dead wrong. There is pressure inside your body. Atmospheric pressure keeps you from letting your body's pressure out b keeping an equilibrium. If there is nothing to hold back that pressure, the molecules would just explode. And since in space there is nothing, you WOULD explode. Even space dudes have pressurized suits.

 

Yo, obviously our eyes cannot see the wave lenghts. Learnt from my physics textbook.

Yes, everything is hypothetical because by thinking about these crazy things is the only way technology will progress: if math wonder nerds never bothered to figure out complex physics there would never be rockets and satellites, and I'm sure one day research on the speed of light would also come to help.

i believe you would explode because the human body would be able to withstand the speed it is traveling at. Think about it if you have ever traveled even 100km per hour with your windows open, think of that feeling but 100000x faster.. yes i think u would explode lol

 

Bad example. In your situation you have a physical substance holding you back (air), but we're talking about traveling in a vacuum which means there is nothing holding you back.
