    How to Stop an Addiction

Many of us, normally around the Teenage age, start to pick up addictions. Whether it is an addiction to drugs, to an addiction to food. It happens to all of us, Every day, Every minute. During my guide I will explain from past experience some very useful things to know and some very useful tips which hopefully will lead you on your way to stopping your addiction.

Prior to starting my guide I want to let you know one thing: Some people when they have an addiction feel they are different or weird. This is not the case, everyone has them ( Whether they choose to say it in public or not ) So you are not alone, people struggle with them everyday, and they can be stopped.

    What is an addiction?

"Addiction is a term used to describe a devotion, attachment, dedication, inclination, etc. Nowadays, however, the term addiction is used to describe a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences to the individual's health, mental state or social life. " -Wiki

An addiction can be anything that is liable to damage your body, or damage someone else or just something you do too much of. For example: If you drink too much Orange Juice then you should, This is not really classified as an addiction, Because it is good for you. An addiction can make us spend too much time with / on / doing the thing we are addicted to and it can take away from our lives.

Some of the most common addictions for teenagers is Drug Addiction,Smoking Addiction, Sex addiction and Eating Addiction / Dis-orders.

How can I get rid of my addiction?

I'm going to get right down to the point... Getting rid of an addiction is not a walk in the park. It takes a lot of Commitment, hard work, and determination. Prior to even attempting at stopping an addiction you will need to make sure you will be able to do these three things. If you think you cannot do them, Then you're better off just quitting now.

So if you want to get rid of addiction, the best way to do it from my experience is to lower intakes. Do not just say: I am going to quit Smoking, and try to never do it again. You will just get stressed and eventually most likely go back to smoking. If you want to quit, you should lower your in takes ( how much you do your addiction )

    Example:

If I smoke 6 days a week, and 2 packs a day, On my first week of trying to get rid of my addiction, I would cut that down just to : 5 days a week, 2 packs a day.

Your first week of trying to quit your addiction will be hard, since you are so very much used to it. Although, I can gaurantee you if you can get through the first week, the seccond and third week will roll by much smoother.

Below is a small chart / list on How to get rid of your addiction in 4 weeks.

If you follow this chart, You will gauranteed have the addiction gone by the end of the fourth week. Now, by "Intake" it means mainly "doing" whatever it is your addiction requires you to do, Let alone it might not be food / smoking.

    Don't Give Up!

Like i said at the beginning being able to staying commited to doing this, will be very very very hard. I have therefore below created a small list on things to do that will quite possibly make getting rid of your addiction a tad easier:

    - While you are trying to lower the intake of your addiction, try to take up a new hobby, Something to get the addiction off your mind.
    - During the final stages of getting rid of your addiction it helps to stay as relaxed as possible, For if you become suddenly stressed it could triger your brain in wanting the old usual to calm yourself down ( Your addiction )
    - Lastly, Do NOT give up. Everyone is capable of doing this. Stick with it, and try your best, And if you do fail.. Well at least you tried.

Thank you for reading my guide and I hope it helped / will help

This is a pretty nice guide, but addictions are hard to stop, so it might work and it might now work for other people

Yep, Addictions vary from person to person, But the main thing as I suggested is it takes: Commitment, effort, and dedication.

Thank you very much for the comment though :p

I agree... for some people it will work for others it doesn't. It really depends. Like i've been eating so much chocolate and i've wanted to cut out on it, but however much i try i keep eating and i can't even reduce it without getting help from my parents such as hiding the chocolate. lol.. but anyways nice guide.
