Guide to making flies (fly-fishing)​

Ok so in this guide, I'm going to tell you about making flies. These flies are used to fish with a fly-fishing rod, you can say that it's a really relaxing and fun thing to do.

First of all you will need some gear:


This is the basic stuff you will need to make flies. Thread, hooks, a stand for the hooks, colourful rooster scalps, all sorts of feathers and you can use painted wool, fur etc. for the bodie.

The Process:​

First of all, you put a hook in the stand:


Then you border the hook with thread for it not to be so "sliperry":


After doing this, you will have to add a "tail" to the fly, I used synthetic feathers:


After getting the tail on, cut the remaining feathers. And now you are ready for the body, I used super bright dubbing, rusty brown.:


Then after choosing the dubbing i got some golden wire to the back, put some glue on the thread and glues the dubbing on the thread:


With the dubbing on your thread roll it from back to the front and then roll the golden wire from the back to the front. Get it tight with the thread and cut the rest of the wire, you should have something like this:


After that i got some more synthetic feathers on the fly:


I took rooster scalp (painted black) and got me a good feather:



Tie the feather to the top of the fly and roll it to the front:


Get some glue on the head and add a few noughts, cut the thread and you are done!

Awesome guide, my grandpa taught me how to tie flies

I suggest though you add what the tools are.

I havnt gone fly fishing but I do fish every year

Yeah my grandpa lives in Oregon and his backyard is on the river so we
are always fishing. Like I said earlier he taught me how to tie ties.
He showed me his collection hes made over 250+ at least

Yeah he made the majority of them when he had knee surgery
he couldnt do anything else so he picked it up.
I never made anything amazing though, maybe ill take some pics.
