Need tips and helpful feedback for guitar.

So, I'm a bit of a noob at guitar, but i'm very interested in getting good at it. I decided to post a video on youtube of me playing Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine on the guitar, to get some tips and helpful feedback on how I can improve.

Please check it out and give any tips and stuff that you can!

Please, no flaming, I'm aware that I am a noob at guitar, and I'm just looking for ways to improve myself.

The lighting in the video isn't the best, but the video quality isn't whats important.

I'm playing a studio Gibson Les Paulwith a Traynor DG15 amp.

If anyone is familliar with the amp and would like to recommend ways to get a better sound out of it, please do.

On the second verse, I don't know how to do the little scale thing, so I improvised.
I don't know how to play the solo or bridge yet, but when i figure it out, i might throw it in.

    Heres the video:

The tone seems dead on, just work on strumming, that's all I have to say.
If you can't figure out those things, try learning them and improvising never hurts either.

Yeah, looking back on the video, my strumming does seem pretty sloppy.
    I'll start workin' on it.

Hmm nothing is wrong with taking lessons, always remeber that. And just like Walk On Home said never hurts to improvise ;)

Also just keep working at it and try other songs at the lvl that ur at in guitar playing skills. If u really wanna improve now would be a great time to do it due to the fact that its summer. Sit down and just playing guitar work on the songs that u know.

I didn't watch your whole video But that song is a novice type of song. So I will go from what I hear, seen , and where I believe you are at.

    First off: your strumming
Strumming rather it be lack of speed or precision it is best to practice scales such as the chromatic scale etc. to work on both of these just get them down then try to play them faster and faster.

Next proceeding to the next level:
I am sure you have probably when first trying to learn looked for a site to help teach you some tricks, give you some idea's how to play (if you taught yourself) An chances are you found no free ones, Well this site http://www.fretjam.com/index.html Is a good one , has several types of music to learn, has tuning's etc.

Next although I am sure you already have it or guitar pro is
    Power tab:
It is a nice little program that allows you to see tabs of songs (that you download) and you can play the tabs to see how they sound, and even create your own, Power tab is 100% free unlike guitar pro, Guitar pro is better but only offers a free trial which is 10 days or so and gets annoying to have to re-download it. You can get Power tab though here: http://www.power-tab.net/guitar.php

Where to get tabs: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ Just simply search a name of song or band and get a list, (note if you don't know on the far right it will say one of these "power tab". "tab", "chords","guitar pro" etc. you will want either tabs or power tabs unless you know your chords then any except guitar pro unless you decided to go with guitar pro)

Now for several good in my opinion beginner songs:

(note this goes by band name - song name)

    1. weezer - buddy holly
    2. 3 days grace - the animal I've become
    3. simple plan - perfect world
    4. goldfinger - spokesman
    5. acid bath - bleed me an ocean
    6. poisonblack - rush
    7. nirvana - come as you are
    8. metallica - die die my darling
    9. spineshank - while my guitar gently weeps (cover song)
    10. marilyn manson - sweet dreams (cover song)

All those songs are extremely easy to learn, and with the skill you have already attained I am sure wouldn't be too hard at all to learn, you have probably already learned some of them.

After you get going a bit and want to learn songs that will test your speed , these are some songs to look for.

    1. children of bodom - bed of razors
    2. murder dolls - dress to depress (the little solo in this is a good one for people who are just learning how to do solo's)
    3.all that remains - six
4.lamb of god - laid to rest
    5.lamb of god - redneck
    6. slipknot - before I forget
    7. priestess - lay down
    8. blue oyster cult (basically anything from these guys)
    9. ozzy osbourne - crazy chain (The beginning is a good part to work with speed the part that goes 2,2,4,2,5,2,4, yadda yadda yadda )
    10. Eric Clapton - tears in heaven (not really that fast but it was one of the first songs I learned and I found it rather difficult you might want to try it)

If there is anything else you want to ask me Feel free to post here and I will get back to you.
