WLAN... routers, extenders and usb adapters

    Hi there.

Iv had quite a headache with my wireless internet for some time now!
Im on my 3rd router in 3months and today it is the DrayTek Vigor2800VG. It is said to be a very reliable router with a good signal and stuff.
(note: I AM NOT TECHNIC LITERATE)

It works briliantly when wired with the CAT5 RJ45 Cable, but when it comes to stand downstairs, in between both my houses - the signal fails to please me.

I looked and read around, and even summoned the assistance of my local computer technician and came to the conclusion that an investment in a signal range expander would be the wisest choice. I have two Computers in my house, One upstairs, and the other a laptop. In the other family house next door - I have 3 laptops one desktop. some have Cards some have usb adapters.

At times the signal is great - but at other times the signal is poor. If I were to place the router in the dining room adjacent to the wall of both houses, drill a hole through the wall, place an expander, put the RJ45 cable from the expander to the router on the other side, I would assume the signal would be good on the other side?

Due to this reason, I am asking my fellow sythe.org members to aid me in this wretching pond of misery.
I need to know the details of how these Networking systems working when the Expander comes into play... I assume it goes under the tab WDS?

I would like to know the best available Expanders for a good price...
and The best available USB adapters for a good price.

And oh... Im in the UK.

(wow i sounded like a nerd... dont like this acting at all haha)

    Cheers for reading :D

The signal range expander (repeater) will boost the signal strength between your computer and your router. So you would want to put the repeater at the midpoint of the computer and router. This should offer you farther lengths and better speed.

Perhaps get one of these repeaters:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e?url=search-alias=electronics&field-keywords=repeater&x=0&y=0

Along with getting a repeater, try to move sources of interference away from your router if possible. Like cell phones, florescent lights ext.

    wtf thanks for the reply.

But I have purchased a Linksys Wireless G Range Expander (WRE54G)
I havnt finished the setup yet... but by just plugging it in and doing Autoconfig
is increased the signal from 11mbps to 54mbps lol...

I have decided to buy the Draytek Vigor600 usb adapter also.

I will post back when I have recieved everything and when all is set up.
