As many of you know in 2016 Jagex was bought by a Chinese corporation called Hongtou for $400M. Hongtou was later bought by Zhongji Holding, which appears to be listed as Shanghai Zhongji Investment Holding Co Ltd (600634) on the Chinese Stock Exchange.

As of this writing the company is valued at $656M, down from $2.73B at the start of 2018. RuneScape is one of their biggest games, and still seems to generate profits for the company. However, we all know the game is in decline right now. Jagex has reduced staff by 25% since 2016.

Since many of us here on Sythe depend on RuneScape for side income or our full income this should be very concerning. The repercussions of such a steep slide in value (especially over the last month) could be coming our way any day.

I believe the worst case scenario is Jagex being sold to another company. We don't know what that company will have in store for us.

UPDATE 6/12/18 STOCK IS PRICED AT 3.24 CNY

I'm definitely not liking the looks of that chart. Jagex has made some shady moves I feel like in the past, but this is looking a little rough. Especially being owned by a totally different set of people.

I think mobile will bring in a considerable amount of players. RS3 may be dying but OSRS will probably grow.

Yeah everyone's gonna be going crazy for mobile, I think RS3 will eventually die or it'll be a few select players that're just afk 24/7.

Besides Runescape, every Jagex game has gone to shit so it's no surprise this is occurring. Without OSRS, Jagex would be even worse than it already is.

Yeah, the way they've done some crazy negative updates over the last few years then bring something back, take it away, bring it back blah blah is a bit sketch and garbage to me personally.

With gold prices dropping goldfarming is barely gonna be profitable in a year or so anyway... Better cash out while you still can.

I can see a new company coming in to take over there could be something fishy going on in the back rooms of that company.

They own 100% of the company according to public documents. It was a full and total sale by the founders of Jagex.

I thought I looked into this and they had just purchased a huge amount of investments and thats why it had dropped, waiting for a return. Not sure though
