Veng threatening to dox a member

Just after some clarification here - why does it need to be the user(s) being threatened, to be the one to report said 'dox' attempt.

If someone scams another user, the precedent isn't that said victim is only entitled to post a report, anyone can if they have adequate proof.

Just to clarify, this isn't about Veng, just the ruling in general. Just using this as an example.

 

Don’t infract please genuine question, so someone can break the rules and not get in trouble unless the victim reports it? So Someone can basically scam someone else and as long as they don’t report it The scammer gets away with it? Even if another member reports it? Bit fucked

 

Scamming is completely different, however, we cannot force people to provide proof if they have been scammed. I know there are a few members who have been scammed but there is no rule forcing people to make a report.

The doxing rule is different to scamming, not to mention these "threats" were in the spam forum.
Conversing/trolling with friends is allowed (rules of the Discord: http://puu.sh/AC0Ao/6f2022e535.png) so unless Veng is harassing other members/members who aren't his friend then I don't see any reason to take action against him.

 

Thanks for replying Chloe, however, I feel like you've missed the entire point of this thread/what I asked.

I think we're all capable enough to understand that Doxing and Scamming are two differing offences, naturally. No need to point that out really.

It's important to note, that this thread isn't about reporting Veng, or having him punished (as aforementioned in the OP), so I'm unsure why you're talking about 'taking action' not being warranted.

This is about clarification of WHY the Doxing rule is different, which you are yet to answer. How does it make sense to only allow the victims to report the Doxers? I.e, if I'm on holiday, or I've stopped using Sythe/Discord, and someone goes and Doxes me and posts all my info everywhere - how is someone else not entitled to report said Doxer? A) How can I report them if I'm not even in the loop of it happening? B) What reasoning is there to not allow others to report said Doxer, provided adequate proof is available?

The fundamental element is the same as scamming - they are committing an offence. Understandably they aren't the same offence, but the underlying issue is still the same.

 

If a user were to seriously dox another user, a ban would be placed. (Given there was enough information that the "dox" was real.) Threats on the other hand are different to someone actually doxing another member.

Using Veng as an example, he "threatened" his friends who all knew it was a meme/joke and didn't take it to heart.
If Veng started PM'ing new users/users who weren't his friends and they were not okay with this/worried then he would be warned and told to stop, if he didn't then he would receive temporary bans and so forth.

If Veng posted information of another user (without their permission) then I believe anyone could report that. I guess this is where it gets sticky though, if you are on holiday and a user is posting your dox (and you don't use Sythe anymore and won't for 2+ weeks) there's nothing we can do until you have proven that the information he is spreading is real.
Some users post pastebins in the Sythe Discord of other users "Dox of x" and none of the information inside has been real, that is why we leave it up to the person who is being doxed to make the report because it is hard for anyone else to prove the information is real.

Tl;dr if someone is seriously posting another users dox (and we can prove the information is accurate and not a troll) then we would 100% place a ban. If someone is trolling with friends in the spam forum then a ban will not be placed.
