Grades show your will to work in America, but not elsewhere. I lived in Germany and they reflect your intelligence there. I put in no effort whatsoever, only working while I was in school, and I got straight A's. Some kids would go home and work for hours and still fail classes. Here in the US it's exactly the opposite, all busywork so that the teachers can see how much of your time they can burn and they base your grade upon how dedicated you are in completing the nonsense. That's why I skipped to senior year and am taking college courses. The schooling system here is completely ridiculous.

I think that grades don't represent your true intellect, just some of it, and the other part it represents is how much your willing to sacrifice to get that grade (e.g working hard). Like Math, I know almost everything that we go through, but my grades a C+ due to the fact that I never do my homework.

There's doing well in school and doing school well.. doing well in school is going above and beyond what is required so that you can learn and better yourself. Doing school well is doing what is asked of you so that you can get the A's and B's and say "Woo I'm smart"

judging by your grammar, you're not very intelligent...
wikipedia's definition of intelligent: "Intelligence is a property of mind that encompasses many related mental abilities, such as the capacities to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas and language, and learn. ..."

as pf right now, grades are the most effective measure of a person's mental abilities. Keep in mind that intelligence is not just simple retention of information, but also work ethic and other things like that.

His grammar was fine, his mechanics were incorrect, however. I disagree. Grades do not measure intelligence effectively. That's why we have the ACT. Grades measure how dedicated you are you scribbling out photosynthesis for three hours.

Ok, grades are the worst system in the world and the reasons are as follows.

Grades are a simple, primitive system that do not represent anything at all. All it shows is that the student worked and worked, and no intelligence. You see, a student could study every night and cram before a test, then get every problem right. Does that make him intelligent? no, it makes him studious. So it shows who is a studious student and who is not.

Well I get straight A's, and I'm in honors. Yet, I'm pretty slow on grasping other things outside of schoolwork.

Grades don't reflect your intelligence, they reflect your effort at school. You could be really smart, but be lazy at school and receive C's and D's. But you could also be a robot, memorizing all the information for your class, day after day, the stuff teachers want you to memorize to ace your big exam/test.

Grades have nothing to do with how smart you are. Albert Einstein always failed school because he was just lazy.

    Do grades

I'm at a selective school for the "gifted and talented" students.

    I get bad grades.

Does that necessarily mean i'm stupid or can't be bothered doing my homework.

    OR

Does it mean that i'm outshone by all the Ubernerds.

Grades represent the effort you put in. Unfortunately in my case I put little to no effort in, and therefore have to endure my bad grades.

Grades at my school hardly represent intelligence. It is just whomever the teacher likes the most (usually girls that suck their dicks)

False, Einstein didn't fail school. As a matter of fact he didn't like rigid methods of instruction at school. He liked to study mathematics and science on his own for which he had a special aptitude. He wrote his first paper 'The Genesis of the Theory of Relativity' at the young age of 16.
    http://www.physics.gmu.edu/classinfo/astr103/CourseNotes/ECText/Bios/einstein.htm

He left school with two years to go to meet his family that had moved to Milan and with the hope to get enrolled in the Polytechnikum (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Zurich although he was two years shy of the standard enrollment age of eighteen (which he mentions in the letter to Koch) and an uncertified school dropout. However, he was given special permission to take the entrance examinations and did well on the scientific section, but showed considerable gaps in the general section. It was arranged that he would enroll instead at the Gymnasium in Aarau, where he found a nurturing academic environment. He eventually went on to graduate in physics and mathematics from the Polytechnikum in 1900, and then began to focus his efforts on the Theory of Relativity.
