qucik question for web designers

What is it called for the login thing. Like I know theres register, login, profiles, ect. What is it called?

Wait, what do you mean login thing?

A database? where the info is stored?

The user is stored in a database when you login it reads like this..



SELECT *(everything) FROM users WHERE user="username"

if($,password == $,password)

// login

else
die(incorrect password);



lot of errors in that, quick sketch. But basically how you login in is.. you put in your name, it finds your name in the database, then decodes the password, sees if the password you entered matches the password for the row in which your name is in. If it does, it logs you in with all the information in the row with your username. And to make it so you don't have to login 24/7 on each new page, there's something called sessions, which means its stored that your session exists and you are in fact logged in. if the session doesn't exist, it tells you you need to log in.

If the password doesn't match, then it kills your connection with the database.
