Connecting To IRC Using mIRC

Before you can start using mIRC, you will first need to install it. If you have already done that, you can skip to the next step. Once the download has completed, the mIRC installer will appear. You should follow the steps in the installer and then run mIRC.

When you run mIRC you will normally see the window above. The first time you run mIRC, it'll be blank, so fill it in with your name, email address, and nickname. Your nickname is the name people will know you on the IRC as. It is alright not to use your real name.
When everything is filled out, hit "OK"

After selecting "OK", it should go blank. In the little box, type /server irc.sythe.org


After that, you should be connected, and you'll see this popup.

In the box where it says "Enter channel and click to join", type #market and click join. To join #market, you don't need to register a nick, but to join other channels like #sythe, you do.

You will need to choose the nick you want to register, or the name that will be displayed when you speak. To do this, simply type /nick YOURNICK. Ex: /nick Eric. You will need to pick a unregistered nickname. If you nick you have chosen is taken already, you will see this message:

Once you choose a nick that isn't taken, you'll have to register. To Register on the IRC, type /msg NickServ register yourpasswordhere YOUREMAILHERE. Then you'll be given a confirmation code in your e-mail, so put a valid e-mail. Then type that in the server box, and you'll be ready.

 

It's good to see the HUE's making some quality guides. They should replace the one in the IRC forums with this one.

I'm glad to see a IRC guide that won't leave people guessing.

 

Just a thought, Eric: Maybe you could add a few things, such as using perform to automatically identify and join channels etc. I'm sure that would clear up a couple of things that people might ask!
