    Windows Media PLayer 11 Problems

First off, no I will not switch to iTunes, or Rhapsody, Napster, or any other if those things. I want my WMP11Vista fixed.

BTW I have WMP 11 for Windows Vista, and I cant reinstall it as it wont let me (I don't want a way to re-download it, I want to fix my problem)

I don't really know why this started happening, it just randomly started...
I try to open ANY song in WMP and it kindof stalls then I get an error message
    Code:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
I then get an option to either "close" the error message or get "Web help". If I choose Web help it brings me here

    Code:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.6001.7000&id=C00D1199&contextid=216&originalid=C00D36B4
    That doesn't help.

    Any suggestions?

it seems like wmp can not read your files. What type of file format are you trying to play like .mp3 .mpeg

If it dosent say the format on the end of the file then...

Control panel (classic view) | Folder options | View (tab) | uncheck the box Hide extensions for known file types

then look at then name of the song that dosent play and it will say the format there.

Either the items you are trying to play are deleted or you need the correct codecs to allow them to work. You should really think about swithing apps. WMP is very poor compared to other apps. A decent free program is Winamp.

Have you recently moved your music files?
If you have then re-add your songs into your wmp library from that location

    iTunes > WMP.

    WMP is your problem.

Anyhow, if you must hate iTunes irrationally, use WinAMP or Media Player Classic. If you _really_ want your problem fixed, ask on the MS forums, or try downloading a few codecs.
