Creating A Strong Password & Keeping It Safe

"Your passwords are the keys you use to access personal information that you've stored on your computer and in your online accounts.

If criminals or other malicious users steal this information, they can use your name to open new credit card accounts, apply for a mortgage, or pose as you in online transactions. In many cases you would not notice these attacks until it was too late.

Fortunately, it is not hard to create strong passwords and keep them well protected."

    A strong password is:
    • Lengthy
    • Not a word or common phrase
    • Made up of case sensitive characters, numbers, and punctuation marks/symbols
    • Isn't used in more than one place. Always use a different password for another website or computer. Computers holding the passwords can get hacked, and can then be used to access multiple accounts if the password is used in more than one place.

The easiest way to generate a safe password, is with a password generator. These will create extremely secure passwords, if the proper settings are used.

A great password generator is found here:
    http://strongpasswordgenerator.com/

Use the following settings, and you will generate a great password like the following. Obviously you wouldn't use this one.

Remember, use a separate password everywhere!
    Also;
If you want to protect yourself further, try this Firefox add-on:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3383

    Cheers.

Also: write your passwords down, god damn. We can secure bits of paper -- we can't secure bits of data nearly as effectively.

Another trick is to take your favorite color, band, and food with 3 numbers... Should be random enough...

    Like "BFLP114" for example.

nice very nice guide, i just don't the point, because i make up passwords such as home791jan like whose gonna figure something like that out? i am basically combining words that dont make sense such as keyboardunited891u whose gonna figure that out? i understand keyloggers, but i heard of programs yet not verified yet that block keyloggers from stealing passwords, what it does is basically just sneds random letters, anyways how am i supposed to enter some of the characters in the password shown like a question mark :S?

Well, I personally change my password every 2 weeks. I use paswords which are related to myself but makes no sense.

E.g: I love fruits, however I make in incoherent. fruitsucktits564

So this will keep any fucking hackers from getting my password. Also mate, great guide. Hope to see more of your guides in the near future.

thanks for this, my kind of passwords are random like
4xe9spe13 or t73dv3utgh and they are very hard hack into due to them being long and confusing.
