How to Use Chat/Text Logs As PROOF!

I hope this gets stickied cause I think it is a really good guide for helping to Report Scammers. Also posted it on other topics just for a good read.

Many of you might wonder, How is using text/chat logs as proof possible?


In order to work, You MUST have MSN Messenger 8.0+

Step One: Download MSN Messenger (I am supposing this step is quite unnecessary). However, if you do not have MSN Messenger 8.0+, it can be found at the following link http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

Step Two: After Installation. Go to http://www.msgpluslive.net/download/



Step Three: Run The Installation



Step Four: Do NOT install the sponsor.... Then you end up here on the Agreement Page



Step Five: Wait for Installation...



Step Six: Your MSN will then restart. Log in with your email address



Step Seven: When you log in, A Configuration Wizard Should Pop Up That Looks like this:



Step Eight: After you press Next: TICK "ENABLE CHAT LOGGING" <--- MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE



Step Nine: This menu provides more options such as "Messenger Lock" which basically Hides all Chat Windows AND your Green Messenger Icon in your Task Iconbar



Step Ten: You will then go through a bunch of confirmations which ultimately end to this:



Step Eleven: Go into your Messenger and Click Preferences For the Extension



Step Twelve: This menu should pop up which shows more advanced configurations



Step Thirteen: Click the "Messenger" Tab and on the left Click "Event Logging"



Step Fourteen: This step is optional but HIGHLY recommended as it protects your logs, you can also choose how safe you want it in the amount Bits it encrypts it in.



Step Fifteen: After you put in your password, it should confirm it




After this Click OK and your done. From this point on, ANYTIME your MSN is on, whether it is in the middle of the night or during your RS gaming time, the add on will record every single word. But this isn't the end of this wonderful guide. So say if you do get scammed... How do I see these logs? Let's continue shall we?

Step Sixteen: If you use Default Settings, the Logs should be stored in your "My Documents". Look for the Folder called "My Chat Logs"



Step Seventeen: Click on the month that you were scammed. You can then click on the person's email. A confirmation should show up if you set a password lock on your logs.



Step Eighteen: Depending your the encryption security you set. The log may load faster or slower



Step Nineteen: From here, you can see EVERYTHING that has been said from spammers to your best friend.



Step Twenty: Another Easy way to get pull up logs off a single person without having to go through all this is by opening up their chat window whether they are online or not. At the top of the Messenger Window. you should see "View your entire conversation with this contact". Click this and you can ALSO use this as proof because what appears is also an un-editable log



In conclusion to this, you might get this program and try to use it against the scammers from before. You do this, however you must take screenshots though a raw IE window as the add-on does not convert old conversations. I hope you guys use this and make Sythe scammer free. For Pen or A Mod: I was in a rush when I made the first draft of this. Can you Change the title to "Using Text/Chat Logs As Proofs" And Also, Can you post this in the Sythe Marketplace so people can help protect themselves a bit before the damage is done.

 

Chat log can't be proof for ease of editing them with paint/ps. Yes this is safe but still can be edited.

 

Ah I see. Well if you use the method above, you can't edit them cause they are written on a .xml file.

 

1. How does it being written in an xml file make it not editable? It's easy to edit/modify the xml files.
2. It's still extremely easy to edit with ps/paint/etc as be ez said.

Text/Chat logs still cannot and will not be counted as solid proof.

 

its pretty easy to edit ss's as well, easily just copy and paste part of the conversation say from a friend as you frame an innocent civilian, but o well
