    Can Blind People Dream?

Answer from somebody who has been blind since she was fairly young:

" Yes, blind people do dream. What they see in their dreams depends on how much they could ever see. If someone has been totally blind since birth, they only have auditory dreams. If someone such as I, has had a measure of sight, then that person dreams with that measure of sight. I still dream as though I can see, colors included. For people I've met since, their faces are just blurs or how I imagine they look. To me, someone like my mother looks forever 30. "

Aaah, so, if they have been able to see before they can simulate the Images in their head, opposed to someone who could never see would not know anything to be visible in their Dreams and could only dream sounds if they dream at all,

    Can Blind People Dream?

Ok, final conclusion on this topic is that yes, blind people can dream. You see, sleep is accessible by all and used by all human beings. When a human being falls asleep, it is not because they are shutting their eyes, it is because their mind needs to reset after a long day. When you shut your eyes, it is to keep them clean and healthy while you sleep. So when blind people fall asleep, they just relax their mind.

Also, blind people can open their eyes! They still can open their eyes and they simply close them when they go to sleep. So yes, blind people do dream, but these dreams are based off of what they here and feel, not what they see.

    Can Blind People Dream?

No, they can't have any visual dreams. The mind uses imagery picked up from the eyes and reproduces into a dream. Hence, if a person is blind from birth, they have no substance to reproduce into dreams. The mind doesn't just have media lying around without viewing it first. To make a crude comparison, an xbox can't show a video game on the screen without first having the CD put in. The same goes for blind dreams. Without the CD (imagery) nothing will show up on the screen (dream).

Logically they can have dreams with sound and smell because they have experienced such things before.

    Can Blind People Dream?

Well then if you say that, you realize that their sleep would be empty, so you have to visualize what it would be like to sleep empty, no dreams.

    Can Blind People Dream?

You're making assumptions that dreams can only exist as you understand them to. Dreams can potentially exist with only sound, smell and the sense of touch; in the absence of all visual aspects. It's not "no dreams", just one with no sight aspects.

    Can Blind People Dream?

    They would obviously dream.

If they weren't always blind then they would dream normally. If they were always blind then they would still dream, just not in the same way we do. There images would be as how they thought they are based on their other senses.

    Short answer; yes.

    Can Blind People Dream?

But would they see things in their dreams? This is the discussion.

I know a little about why people dream..

The most expensive drug you can find is DMT (dimethyltryptamine)

Your brain produces this naturally, but it can be extracted from plants.

For THIS reason, I believe plants go through dream cycles as well.

But yes, everyones brain produces DMT.

Although, if the person had never been able to see in their lifetime, they would have no grasp as to what "seeing" is like.

They would have no perspective of near, far, color, depth, nothing.

So probably just hear and touch dreams.

    Can Blind People Dream?

Oh dear this is a dumb question. Blind people have a problem with their eyes, theres nothing wrong with their brain.

Though obviously, assuming they were blind from birth, they would only hear, feel, smell, and taste things in there dreams, not see. Seeing is only one sense. If they became blind later in life, then they will still dream colors like us.
I remember reading an interview at school about this, and the blind person said that during dreams, he would hear random things in the dream, like a telephone ringing, etc.

This reminds me of a question a person asked in my ASL class. She said, "Can deaf people talk in their minds?".

    Can Blind People Dream?

That is a pretty good question. I think it would depend on if they could see once, or if they were born blind. If they were born blind, they wouldn't have much of a subconcious, so they would be alone in their dreams probably. I have no idea though, maybe you should ask a blind person.

EDIT: opps, I only read the first page. I got the same conclusion as everyone else I see.

Being legally blind, I can confirm that blind people do indeed dream.
