any computers nowadays can do that regardless of its spec. What're referring too is multi-tasking which requires sufficient ram, you gott'a be more specific on what type of computer you're looking for beside saying "I want to multi-task"

Id go with a quad core computer then, with 2GB + ram, 256MB video card at least, and maybe a 160GB harddrive?

    I'd get:

2gb of ram with cas latency 4 and the timing of 4-4-4-12

I'd wait for the newer version of the Quad cores or get the new 8400 c2d.

    x2 250gb HDD raid 0 faster than a raptor

8800gt or the new 9600gt (faster than 8600gt but slower and cheaper than 8800gt)

    600watt Psu

Stop trying to sound cool. That stuff would be pretty much useless to get RAID 0 isent that much faster. The latency isent that significant. And the quads that are out now are fine. When suggesting a computer you dont use technicail terms it wont impress the user. If the person understood half of the stuff you writen they wouldent be asking for help.

Since you sound like you don't know that much about computers and won't want to build one yourself (it is very easy though, and a lot of fun), you can't really go wrong w/ Dell. I do recommend a nice reformat though, when you get the computer, as it will take off a lot of the free trial stuff. I also may recommend if you think you are capable of opening a computer and switching some stuff in and out, a 15,000 RPM Hard Drive, as it has seek times half of what your "average" computer is.

You can't really go wrong w/ these, especially because they usually start @ $648, but have $280 instant savings.

Not often. Its almost always better to buy a computer already built, the company saves money because they buy a lot of each product. It might only be worth it to build if your spending 1k+
