Why do people even try to save the earth?

Do you understand that by you being "environmentally friendly" you are doing absolutely NOTHING to save the worlds pollution problem?

Some peoples argument is that "if people see others doing it, they will too."

I was always taught my whole life to be a leader, not a follower. Not only that but some people are just too hard-headed to change their ways.

No, I won't give up my ride to school. I won't give up my weekend of fun things to stay home and be "environmental."

My opinion is simple. We complain about the war, the problems with 3rd world countries, and problems within our government. Yet we spend more time worrying about how much electricity L.A. is using.

Energy is here to be used, not wasted.

Don't get me wrong, don't stop pollution control completely.. because I live by the Great Lakes and I would hate to see them become dirty.. All I am saying is that we need to stop worrying about the environment as PEOPLE and leave it up to the government to take care of.

A few million hybrid cars out of the hundreds of millions, possibly billions of cars in the world doesn't make a difference.. I'm sorry..

How do you propose the government takes care of pollution you cause? By limiting every family to a certain amount of electricity and fossil fuels? That's about all they could do seen as we as people are posing the greatest threat to our planet. (With the exception of methane from moose A single moose releases the same amount of gases into the air in a year as a car does in 200000 miles)

I would hate to see the great lakes become dirty as well, but you know what? I've never even seen them. It's just morals. The point of being environmentally friendly is to keep at least some of the earth in a healthy state, and by saying there is no point in being "environmentally friendly," when the great lakes are polluted, you are part of the reason.

Driving a hybrid car is only one very small way of being "green." Anybody can recycle, or walk/bike/skate/whatever to get where they are going, or unplug stuff when they aren't using it, or turn lights off when they aren't being used, or any number of small things. You don't have to obsess over the environment to help keep it clean, people just need to get their head out of their asses, and remember the simple things they taught us about in elementary school, like how to recycle...

Being environmentally friendly reduces fossil fuel emissions, which reduces pollution. That's why the Kyoto Protocol was created.

If they see you doing what? Being environmentally friendly? But if it doesn't reduce pollution like you say, why would people do it because someone else is? Yay posers!

I find it sickening that people can make what was once a beautiful planet thriving with wildlife, into the disgusting polluted hole that it is even today.
Look at the smog in Mexico city maybe? Would you like to live in that? Or perhaps all the endangered animals because of people killing them, and for what? For game?!?!?!?! Since when is killing a game? Killing is murder. Even of an animal. If you don't believe me, pick up a dictionary.

Ever notice how air is produced by hmm... TREES?! Forested areas around the world are become depleted because of big label companies buying out the land and clear cutting. You need air to breath... So wouldn't being environmentally friendly and keeping trees around maybe be a good idea?

And I suppose you love sinking your teeth into a delicious steak, now don't you? Pollution kills animals. Pollution kills plants. Pollution reduces breathable air.

I know at least the poster is from the states... Have you maybe noticed how the all powerful united states of America has to buy drinkable water from... Canada?! If it wasn't for pollution, there would still be plenty of drinkable water around the world, but no. Even our drinkable water is being depleted, due to ignorance.

I've seen more beautiful scenery that I have polluted air in my lifetime. The fact is there IS more beautiful scenery than there is polluted areas!

If you kept up on the times you would know that The ALL MIGHTY CANADA wants to pump our great lakes for drinking water! Stop reading bias news articles from the 70's you fool. I've been to ~20 states and never have I had to drink water imported from Canada. Yeah, maybe we import some bottles water but that isn't because our water isn't drinkable.

 

ok first of all, pollution is a problem because of the number of people on this damn planet. You are not going to stop pollution if the population is going to keep increasing like this. I bet most of you "environmentally friendly" people are for helping people in poverty and donating food to Africa. Without even thinking you fucked up right there. Think about what the fuck you are doing, you are keeping generations of poverty alive because of your actions. You are feeding people who are going to make more children who will also suffer from poverty. These people might have even more than 2 kids, therefore increasing the poverty population. What we need to do is develop a long lasting means of birth control and put it in the food we send to Africa so those people can fuck all they want and not have any babies. To fuck and not have babies would save the world. Then after the population of those poor countries would go down, then there will be more resources for people to use and they can establish a good government and a good education system there. You might feel good because you are feeding people in poverty, but that only solves short term problems and highly increases the long term problems. Please think about this and dont be an "ethical" dumbass.

if there werent so many damn people, it wouldnt be possible to create that much garbage and all your problems would be solved. as things are right now, no one can do anything about the population because people are going to keep fucking and making children and all those poverty organizations are going to help them grow up and they are going to make even more children that are going to pollute. When we reach that magic number of people, there will be not enough resources on the planet to feed everyone and many many people are going to die.

The government isn't going to do shit about the pollution because there is still an estimated $100 billion worth of oil in the earth that they can profit off.

The number of people who care about the earth are vastly outnumbered by people who could care less. No one is going to change their lifestyle unless their lifestyle is directly affected by global warming. So those few people who try to be environmentally friendly sadly arent helping much.

It is extremely easy to stop america's dependence on oil. If 10% of nevada was covered by solar panels, it could power this whole country. If north and south dakota were covered with windmills, that could also power the whole country. Unfortunately, there is no profit for the government by switching to alternative fuels so they are sticking with oil until it is gone. And they recently made some law that in 2020 all cars have to be at least 35 mpg. Which is completely retarded because we already have cars that are not dependent on oil.
